The reason I will not host my site on a server located in India is because I cannot trust the Indian staff to be always competent. Don't sue me for racism, I am myself an Indian and live in India, and can safely tell you that US staff is more reliable when you need them the most.

From all my experience about services in India, I will only say that they have upgraded in terms of manners, kind of clothes they wear, the english they speak, show-off, etc. but service quality still remains poor and a customer has to literally cry infront of the companies to get his work done-for which he is paying money. And this is true even for ISP/hosting providers. I had to once speak to a customer care lady from Exatt Broadband who does not know the multiplication factor between bytes and bits. She thought they are the synonyms(I know its lame). Now you know why competent Indians are hired abroad and the incompetent ones are left over in India to 'harrass' the helpless Indian masses.

I know I may be going slightly offtopic, but I have developed a sort of hatred for small and medium size Indian businesses because of their way of functioning. The typical customer of these is one who pays their hard-earned money and then begs to get the service as 'promised'.

There are also some real class businesses in India, but you need really good luck to get associated with them. Else 99% of small busiesses in India are full crap! Most of the time people don't have an alternative option!

When an American customer pays money for a service, you should see what attitude they have. They are very demanding and professional buyers. One things out of its place and they will abuse you and get the work done in no time. In India, the reverse is true. Once you pay the service provider, you are at his mercy. They really aren't bothered for how much you paid or worked hard for that money.

Very True

Btw, @Admin did you find any good reliable host in india who provides hosting at reasonable rates? I guess I'll have to wait for another 100 years.

If I am not wrong, Net4India provides reasonable hosting solutions. There server's mostly located in India. As for their support, in my previous company which had their hosting done in net4india did not have any issues except once or twice.

On a personal front, i host my presonal website on dreamhost, who are on the best providers there. I have been hosting with them for 5 months and i find their control panel user interface much much better than two other hosts (iPower and Yahoo). I plan to move two other domains to dreamhost provided the client gives the goahead.

Hmmmm that is really strange.. My old company have their site still hosted with them. Only one difference might be, the company have their site on dedicated hosting rather than shared one. We needed extreme flexbility with the server so we opted for dedicated server which is kept in their hosting premises. Maybe they treat customer's differently i guess

This forum is also hosted on a dedicated server and its in USA ... can you make out the difference... You cant tell where a site is hosted as the loading times are just not noticable enough to tell how fast or slow a site loads.

Net4.in guys are a rip off and who ever is doing business with them is either doing it out of some compulsion or they just dont know of any other options.

must have hurt you real bad with the exprience with net4in. My former company might opting to host it out of compulsion because they needed a provider who can host the server nearby the company so it's easy for them to data upgrades (sometime's these data updation can come upto GB, which is huge for them.)

Have you tried dreamhost ?

Ya, I have tried Dreamhost. The first 7 days were like

Horrible Customer Care, Most Unprofessional (Just have a look at the type of language used in their site and CP).

I'd anyday suggest hostgator for shared.

For VPS, Slicehost is THE best.

For Dedicated, I'm yet to research.

I have not had a chance to contact customer care as yet. I don't have issues with language with a casual tone. In anycase I will keep my fingers crossed

Smile Dont go with Manashosting

Though (because) I am one of the user of Manashosting services, I DONT recommend this hosting service. I too was drawn away by its cheap package. But since I had not taken reviews from others, I bought their package. Also my website project was a bit experimental and so I didnt mind slow speed.

There are various reasons for my comments.

Secondly their control panel is Doome panel. It takes ages to make changes. Also the HELM control panel itself is not fool-proof. Many a times it show me various packages which are not included in my package deal.
Also the server remains down for for a long time and even the ftp takes ages for uploading/downloadin on 1MB broadband connection.
Third, they dont provide any SEO tools and from control panel. It simply remains inactive icon. They provided me with 5000 web templates but even these templates are only about 100 or so. They gets repeated as you scroll deeper.
Fourth their own website is not completely developed. A lot of pages are still underconstruction or "comming soon".
So what can you expect from such hosting provider who cannot manage their own sites.

The moral of this is only in one line.
Dont go with Manashosting

i recommend ::indianserverservice.com Indian Server Hosting || Domain Registration India & Web Hosting Service

Well, most of the biggies do have 24x7 support and that is their biggest advantage. As far as Uptime or reliability is concerned, i think i myself and many other hosting providers are some of the best in the industry.
