    hey anuphost,

There are many stuff to keep in mind when you select a control panel..

    1. Cost - most of the good control panels are costly ( ~$20 per month )
    2. Ease of use - If you can do 90% of the stuff using their interface, its worth having it.
    3. Support - unless you get good support of your control panel, you are placing yourself at high risk.
    4. Regular upgrades and patches - If your control panel wont provide that, no use with it.

well, it depends on what my application is and where I host my server..

If it is a heavily busy website on a server, I wont choose a control panel. I will setup a custopm LAMP configuration with FTP and SSH. I'll host my DNS at my registrar and use google to serve my emails.

If it is a bunch of websites, or reseller, i'll go for cPanel, no doubt. Because cPanel is quite simple and flexible and quite easy to use. Ofcourse they have very good R&D and support team...

If you are using it for yourself then you can do without a cPanel using direct commands but if you are going to provide some service where people might have to log in then its best to go with a good GUI control panel like cPanel.

For shared hosting packages, I would not allow shell access to any of the accounts, unless their requirement is quite justifiable and it will be disabled once the need is over.

I am using VPS with cPanel and it works great for me.. As because it is easy to operate and a beginner can also operate it without ant confusion, i usually recommend cPanle to everyone.

I use cpanel because it is so much easier to move a site from one server to another and also restoring old backups its just a few clicks. Cpanel isint very complicated and is very easy to use for beginers.

    Default hosting control panel

I love cPanel - best of all control panels. It has tons of features compared to other control panels. Even some of my noob customers can easily work with the cpanel and use it options. I love the way of improvisation.

Followed by cPanel, I love Direct Admin

hmm, have been a long time that I have used DA. but I am not sure if it offer so much of features as cpanel provides. I am not sure any particular feature that DA or plesk offer which cpanel cannot.

and at present there is litespeed and nginx integration is also possible ( nginx as a reverse proxy / image rendering server ) and apache to serve the PHPs so that the cpanel server is 500% faster!!!

    enjoy Guys!
    Waka Waka!

I have worked with Cpanel, Plesk and Direct Admin and following is my opinion about these control panels
    1) Cpanel: very easy and simple to configure. Anyone can go for it specially its very easy for the newbies

    2) DirectAdmin: As compared to Cpanel DirectAdmin is a bit complicated but advance linux users won't find any difficulties in it as it is very flexible and you can install any application in it.

    3) Plesk: is simple (but not as cpanel) but it's very rigid as you have to maintain the limitation or boundary lines drawn by the Parallels/SW-soft and everything is based on one database..

This is my personal opinion it might vary with different members...

In my opinion these are the best control panels in terms of user friendliness:

    Paid: cPanel

Free and open source: Lxadmin (it's now known as Kloxo).
