Co location where? It all depends on how much bandwidth you need and also the kind of support you expect.. Are you going to ship the box or go down to the data centre yourself?

If its not a very odd configuration that no data center would do for you then co-location is a good idea but otherwise I would say co-location is for biggies who have hundreds of boxes not for people with one or two boxes because renting a box always works out to be cheaper as you don't have the kind of negotiating position because of the small quantity of business. Data center wont even get into bargaining mode for a few boxes.

You can sure get a box with 1000GB plus bandwidth and Pentium 4 kind of thing for $99 a month with 1-2gb ram.
