    This may help

Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done

I have purchased the domain from Gandhi : Domain name registrar and VPS cloud hosting - Gandi.net

You can also try Hostgator. Please wait for further comments.

    - You can try godaddy.com. They are good. You can also try namecheap or name.com
    - Buy domain and webhosting only from reputed companies.
    - Ohh do you plan to setup your own server. I would say dont go for that. You can buy cheap hosting at bluehost or hostgator for a year and host on them. Setting up and maintaining own server is a big pain. It wount just work out.
    - If you buy hosting on bluehost or hostgator you just define the nameservers for your domain at your domain registrar.
