Default Where to get a domain

Just wondering, according to you, which provider is best to get a .com or .in domain.

What all factors should we consider when buying a domain ? Is it just like get one from a reputed provider or any other factors are involved ? Any disadvantages of getting from a cheap domain from not much hyped provider ?

In my opinion, you should go with reliable domain name sellers such as whois.com, godaddy.com, etc.

Thanks, could you list any drawbacks that can happen with unreliable providers ? Just for info.

Is godaddy good ? I read some bad reviews about them disowning the responsibility when sites on their servers were infected due to their fault. They didn't even care to issue guidelines to rectify the malware script.

I have been using Godaddy for more then a decade and havent had any problems as far as buying domains goes although they can cut down on the promotional stuff that comes up before you go to final payment page on their website.
You can also try name.com namecheap.com

Problem with small registrars is that they in some cases dont have a reputation to maintain and that is not a very desirable situation when you have a dispute with such a company. Google about domain disputes with registrars and read some of the stories.

For .com domains you can look for godaddy and when it comes to .in domains I prefer mitsu.in they offer good support and I never faced any issues with them.

I prefer buying my domains from a local provider based in India itself. It eases up the support problems. Look at places such as HawkHost, CreedHost or IndiaHostings for more information. .COMs are ideally around 500 rupees.

I would rather not do any business if I had to deal with Indian service providers. Domain sellers based in USA are the best and the Indian resellers do not even know how to spell customer service leave alone providing any.

Stay away from Indian hosting providers and domain resellers if you dont want to waste your time and energy chasing people who dont give two shits about your business. I would be the first one to start buying from within India if I get the slightest hint that things have changed here... untill then my money is going to USA and UK although I dont particularly like their attitude towards us Indians but when they sell something they make sure they do everything within their means to make sure their customers keep coming back. In India businesses believe too much in destiny and believe if they are going to get a customer back they will and if they dont they wont regardless of how you treat them and this is something so deep rooted into the society that I avoid Indian seller like plague.

    Thumbs up Domain registration

Domains can be registered anywhere , its not necessary to have hosting and domain at the same hosting company.

So, you can select any well know registrar to register the domains.

Try netfirms.com first year is only ~$5 and it also includes free privacy protection. Other web domain registers charge arm and lenght for Privacy Protection.

I prefer namecheap, you can pay via paypal.

Reading the godaddy reviews, I never felt like going with them.

I've been using namecheap since quite a few years now and I would recommend it to you.

On Google India, .in websites are ranking better than .com websites (I tested it, on the same keyworkds). But for other Googles you are right. Renewal fees for .in and .com are nearly the same. Where are you taking you .in ?

I don't agree .in ranking is better than .com on Google.co.in. In fact, all depends on the market you are targetting.

    Hi,
Make sure your domain is short and simple!! Free and cheap providers may not always be safe!! Your domain may not be active even after registration!! So it is better to choose a good and reliable registrar!!
I would suggest whoisxy.com ,because i registered two of my domains here!! They provide good domain registration service and customer support with free private registration!!!
