What is a VPS?
Web hosting means to provide access and disk space to a website. There are many types of web hosting such as managed hosting, shared hosting, dedicated servers, VPS, cloud hosting etc.
VPS stands for 'Virtual private server' which acts as a virtual machine and seems to work like a dedicated server, but actually it's installed in a computer. I just know a little about this term and I'm willing to know more about this. Could someone explain it, please?
You already have basic knowledge on the topic. But one thing which I would like to add is that- VPS are fast and costly while shared servers are slower and cheaper. If you are planning to set up your website then I would suggest you to go for shared and if everything goes well them upgrade to VPS.
@neerajojha0001 Hmm, I know VPS is costlier than shared hosting, but it provides better access to your website. In shared hosting, there's a risk of facing downtime issues while under VPS, there are no such risks. You can customize your disk space, CPU etc and get better technical support while facing any issue, I guess.
The best explanation from Wikipedia:
A virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual machine sold as a service by an Internet hosting service. A VPS runs its own copy of an operating system, and customers have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, so they can install almost any software that runs on that OS.
