To start with let me tell you web hosting is nearly nonexistent in India and I am not talking about the resellers who are from India but sell hosting in servers in US.

There are a very few companies which provide web hosting in India. The main reason being low prices of US competitors and at the moment it doesn’t look like this is going to change in the near future. The main problem with starting a hosting business in India and setting up a data center is the government of India which just doesn’t know how to keep up with the technological advances the world is making. I would be the firt one to set up a small data center some where near new Delhi if the govt becomes a bit reasonable with the licensing and stuff and does away with this stupid pornography laws. The day government of India wakes up from its long sleep and makes porn legal it will give such a huge boost to the economy given the potential of web hosting business which is driving force behind the Texas state's development in US and its all due to the favorable government policies and cheap bandwidth.

Some of you would say whats allowing porn got to do with web hosting, well porn industry constitutes a major chunk of internet traffic and if porn site hosting is not allowed by the government in India that business is lost straight away so demand decreases even before I start up my web hosting business and that kind of brings and end to the plan as according to some estimates more then 50% traffic is adult traffic and if India chooses to turn a blind eye to it then it wont take many guesses to find out who is loosing out.

Hosting in India is costly mainly because of the Bandwidth Costs and non availablility of high speeds (compared to other countries).
And yes.. all the hosting businesses that operate own Dedicated Boxes/VPS/Reseller accounts from Offshore companies!

Speed

The main thing is that high speed internet connections are required which are not available for cheap prices in India and more over in some places you would also have electric problem. So these are the two main drop backs.

Starting a hosting company in India at this time is of no profit but may be some losses game. You need cheap internet connection which is the baic requirement to set up a hosting serivice in India and it is not possible to get a good bandwith connection in India for cheap price.

Right now getting into webhosting business in India is not a good business deal. It would be nice to get with Reseller packages for now.

Right now there are so many companies providing web hosting services in india.To name some are rediffmail , manashosting , net4india etc.Manashosting , net4india these two companies are providing very good services to all their customers,

Admin no matter what happen i am sure about one thing and i.e our government is not going to allow porn hosting.

And thats the right decission. Theres lot other areas which can generate large traffic. Online and B2B in India has high potentials and very large market to tape. Allowing "porn" can never be catalyst.

i am a part of a student organization and due to some reasons, mainly payment, i cant' buy hosting space from foreign hosting sites. could anyone suggest which Indian hosting site would be best in that case.

You dont even have a clue what I am talking about... You probbably are some one who just logs on to the internet twice a year and listens to the news when you have missed an ipl match or something on those lines...


When I say allowing porn it doesnt just mean hosting porn sites... In India if I have a data centre and some moron hosts a porn site on one of my servers there is no way I can tell or keep check on that but guess what? I get done for that if that site comes under the scanner and even if I dont get punished for some mofo's cheekiness I would still have to do a lot of rounds at some court in India where the suit would be held.

A huge percentage of the ruling class in India fly to Amsterdam on weekends ... it shouldnt take many guesses what they do over there....
LOL you think I am talking out of my arse? come to Delhi and check out the crowd that boards the KLM flight every night and the Northwest flight from Mumbai.. these are both daily flights and I can bet you any money that you will see a lot of familiar faces on almost every flight...

Absolutely correct .........you can check the records that every year thousands of students are going abroad mainly US and Canada for their studies and never come back .........they come back when they have their PR!
!!!...........then you can predict that ho many business men are going to other

The part you said you didnt get:

Say for example I am a webhosting company and I sell you a hosting package and you set up a porn site on the server space which I allot you... technically speaking I still own the box where that porno stuff is stored and every one who visits your site accesses those pages from my server which is by law owned by me right! Now being a webhost I would sell hundreds or thousands of packages and it would be impossible to tell who is hosting what and in the mean time the law enforcement finds your site and you get caught and legal proceedings start against you... but this doesnt just stop there ... The stupid legal system in India will charge me aswell for transmitting porno material through my own cables and helping you in distributing that illegal material. Hope I made some sense here... please shout again if I missed out on something.

Another thing which you didint get... The reason I mentioned Amestardam was : Search google for why is Amsterdam famous and you will see what I meant.

Right said, Admin. Porn, casinos, gambling sites are high risk business and those which uses up the bandwidth. I am damn sure that our economy will boost up once they are made legal in India. (and moral aspects of the society ??? they are still not that worse in southern part..jk) India is technologically advanced and more and more users are using the internet compared to other countries where these are already legal. This is where our 110 crore population is going to help!!

But the sad situation will be that rich gets richer and poor will go poorer though, unless the economy will boost the eductational level of the poor.

Manas hosting doesnt provide hosting in India they resell hosting in USA and if you go through threads about them and on other forums you will see that they are one of the worst hosting providers ever.. I wonder why your only post on this forum is all praises for manas hosting?
