Here's an hassle free way to run vista setup from USB , very useful if ur stingy like me or if wanna try ur modded, nlited os in a non-virtual environment... Requirements: 1. USB Drive (>= 4gb) 2. Bootsect - available in vista dvd Steps: (i've assumed u hav turned off UAC, u get any prompts u have to approve them) Initially format your flash drive in NTFS format. 1. Start cmd from run. 2. type "diskpart" 3. Your cmd colon should turn to DISKPART. Now type "list volume" 4. Note down the volume numver corresponding to ur flash drive. type "select volume n". You get a volume selected msg. where n is ur flash drive volume number. 5. type "active" 6. type exit to leave diskpart. 7. In cmd, goto the directry where bootsect.exe is present. type bootsect /nt60 <volume label> volume label is the letter shown in window explorer d,e, f... 8. Now copy all the setup files to your disk and you are ready to go. A method to run XP setup from usb is available on net, but be warned that it will work only if there is a single partition on ur hdd, and its slightly more complicated than this. |
