    Thumbs up USB Boot

    dude!
u can boot from usb drive if and only if u have bootable portable USB version of any operating system.
I dunno abt the laptop specifications u have mentioned but go n check whether it has USB boot support

If you are looking to install windows xp from USB let me tell its quite complicated. And i hear that it will install properly only if the HDD is not partitioned (not sure abt this).

If you want to boot into a feature limited version of XP then try BART's PE or similar s/w.

i will suggest you not to use USB to install your OS as it may give you some problems during installation but the better idea is to get a windows xp disc from any computer vendor and use that to install your OS.

Windows xp disc is the best option to install OS on laptop.
and please post the complete question with proper laptop details, i am sorry to say but your thread/ question was incomplete.

Na i think he wants to boot straight from pen Drive , not installing it from pen drive

You might want to check this thread

    So Alternate suggestion

    Suggestion No 1 :

You can try out Feather Linux
Its a lightweight OS made especially for booting from Flash Drives . All it needs is a minimum of 256mb USB drive and the OS is also free

    Suggestion No 2:

Create a USB bootable version of other Linux flavors like Ubuntu

I tried this once but it is way too complicated.Better avoid.
Google search will give you a lot of results with tutorials, but trust me not worth it.
Just pop in a CD in your drive & you'll be done in a flash.
