Ok, this may sound stupid, but is there any problem with the mouse? Also verify none of the keys in the keyboard are stuck.

This is not a stupid suggestion.. infact this is the only reason that can be thought of..
specially check the keyboard button being stucked..

    1.Download Ccleaner from filehippo.com
2.Uncheck unwanted applications showing in TaskBar.
    3.Update IE. XP Sp3

Still Opera can be tried !!!!

Decrease your mouse sensitivity using Control Panel
    Restart your PC
    Scan your system for spyware.

no .. mouse is working perfectly fine ... and even it the mouse is clicked twice or thrice by mistake it should open 2-3 tabs ...but the tabs keep on opening one after another ... until the computer runs out of memory ...

and this is not at all a stupid or strange problem ... i find many ppl posting similar problem on many forums but am still to find a proper solution ...

and @ essbebe ... i use ccleaner ... and i usually dont keep anything else on my taskbar other than the local area network icon and du meter ... i am very memory concious ...

decreasing mouse sensitivity was not belonged to such case..........

clear all ur cookies nd temp. internet files than try may be it works......if it wont than give a try 2 increasing current virtual memory..........

if both of them wont helps than try to open new tab with shortcut i guess it was ctrl+t

If the problem is not with Mouse or Keyboard then the only solution i can tell is : -
    either update your IE
    or
use some other browser like SeaMonkey.

    Help and Support

about 8 to 10 methods described.
Briefly: Update OS/ run antispy/malware etc
You have to forgo all custom settings in IE,

delete all additional tool bars etc.
    or try a System restore.
    Or sfc /scannow.
    start afresh in original state.

Or switch to Opera ( I use FireFox and K-meleon.
Opera also available.) Still switch to IE from FF with IETAB and IElite for some web sites. and revert to FF from Context menu.

    When IE freezes with CTRL+ALT+DEL
you can see processes : usage of memory also.
Or applications not running including IE.

no the system restore was not helpfull in that kind of situation coz after the restoration we found few of our files was deleted bcoz they wont exist at that time on which we want to restore our machine......

nd not all the process which shared by IE wont stop working by the hanging of IE coz few other applications are still using them at the same time

nd the info bout send error report which we found on that help nd support page wont work coz they wont reply to us for these error reports these are only for their programmers to repair the bugs........

    @amitkool21.
@System Restore does exactly what it means.
To eliminate the possibility of New applications,
with virus/trojans/incompatibility etc deleted from system, to pin point the fault.

The more error reports are sent to MS better.,
They do try to analyse the reports , and correct with updates.
Need not /reply to each error report.

    Para two:
Usually i would have given only the link,
    but as advised
by @Just4kix added some brief details.
The steps advised by Microsoft is about ten pages
or methods, and I had just given brief idea.

Anyway will wait for further suggestions./feedback from
    thread starter.

@cool_techie_tvm as a blogger seems to know ,
the difficulties in solving some problems..
Here you find posts where some have formatted the hard disk and reloaded OS for a simple modem/speed/ problem ! and again face the problem again !

Having/using a different Browser is always an Advantage. You cannot avoid IE still.

    sorry for replying late ...

i dont think the problem will be solved by repairing because i face this problem on every installation of xp even after formatting the entire disk which i do once in a period of 6-7 months.

Since this seems like a bug maybe u can report it directly to Microsoft by accessing Feedback

I'm facing the same problem. Its probably because of ddeexec registry key under html, mht and other webpage related files. Cant fix it though. Using opera as default browser instead. And firefox when opera fails.
