    Unhappy Strange Problem??

I have Toshiba Satellite A135-S2276 Laptop, I use Windows XP professional on it. I got this problem on the system i dont know 4rm where, Every keystroke is invoking internet explorer, like whenever i press any key on the keyboard, internet explorer opens, if i press 4-5 keys, 4-5 instances of internet explorer opens. I thought this is some kind of virus, so i updated my anti virus, scanned my computer, but didnt find anything n problem was not solved, So i had to format harddrive completely, I installed a fresh copy of XP, before deleting all the drives, formatting them(slow one), i was very confident this would solve the problem, but even after completely formatting n fresh installation i could not get over this problem, Could this be hardware problem, Once by mistake i spilled some water on the keyboard..

What could be the problem guys, Plzz help????

Did u take the laptop to the service center and get it checked? Seems like some keys have been short circuited by the water spill.

BTW which AV software are u using?

i was using Avast, i have not been to the service center yet, now i think i will have to go there to find out the problem, I dont know if this a virus or software problem or a hardware problem?? I cannot figure out how this could be a hardware problem..

After installing a fresh copy of XP, i though the problem must have been solved, but i was shocked as pressed a key to type something, IE window again opened.

Another thing, during installation, i entered text when the wizard asks about the Users during the installation process, then the keypad worked fine.

All the symptoms point to hardware failure. But the keys working properly during windows installation surprises me. Like mentioned it would be better to seek professional help.

I agree. This seems a problem for the professionals.

However, if u are using some custom quick-launcher/hotkey/shortcuts program supplied by the OEM/others, try disabling that.

no, it cannot be a software problem since you formatted the hdd. there must be a key on your keyboard for accessing IE which got shorted due to spilling of water with some other keys. do you need to install some driver for your keyboard for enabling all the multimedia features? if yes, plz uninstall those drivers. as it might disable the IE opening finction from keyboard.

The keys are working perfectly when he is reinstalling windows and is entering the necessary credentials. How do u explain that?

After fresh installation, i did not install any drivers on the system, just a new copy of Windows OS, no multimedia keypad drivers, nothing. I just dont understand what the problem is, as you guys say it must be that key's are short circuited. I tried every key on the keypad, every key is linked to IE.
Every key produces that "click" sound like when u click the IE icon. It must be a hardware problem. I'm going to take it for service today n let u guys know what the problem was.

One query, does the keypad have a dedicated IE button? The one which while clicked opens up IE.

that is what i exactly meant to say. when he is installing windows none of the drivers which are needed to activate the multimedia features on the KB are installed, thats why its working fine then. but after those features are enabled , the problem starts ...

His laptop keypad is a non-multimedia keypad !!

Anyways he has mentioned that he will be taking the lappie to the service center. Lets not rush ourselves into conclusions and wait for his revert. !!
