I happen to try the build 7000 and i must say it is leaps and bounds better than Windows Vista. This Windows 7 is going to be a tough competitor for Win XP, if i maybe allowed to say..

As of now I'm using XP-SP3 and Vista-SP1 and must admit that XP-SP3 performs much better.
Tried Windows 7 on a friend's system for a little while and definitely found it comparable and may be better than XP-SP3

Default Just got the beta downloaded

Hey guys just got the beta downloaded will see how it works not sure if it can beat XP sp3 but hopefully this time Microsoft should have something that proves that they can standoff the ever expanding open source market.

I mean i am sure many of you must have been using dual OS , one being from the open source fraternity.I personally use Ubuntu as the preferred OS and XP SP3 is after that.So tell me what you guys think about the open source software will it ever be able to take over the proprietary market as the leader.

I am sure the day is not far when everyone will be using Open source OS's as there preferred OS not just as something which they can fall back on.

Opensource is the future. All the major corporations are slowly drifting to opensource. Besides distros are becoming more and more user friendly by the day. The penetration will take sometime but rest assured the day is not far away when opensource will start ruling over the others..

PS: Dont start another gang war, i just stated my opinion!!

Yes, i installed windows 6801 pre beta and and beta later after it was released, and i am still using it, i have now xp + vista + windows7 installed. now i only use win-7 always but ask my brother to only use vista now. its vey good and improved and i can play all multimedia files in wmp as well(* after installin vista codecs package) and the great thing
is it has its own image burner (since i download a lot of small linux distros and try them).
it also boot up faster than vista. there are some ui problems sometimes though, but by the final release, hope they all will be gone. i am eagerly waitng for its final release.

Saying that W7 will be the next Linux killer , i think is a bit too much .But that's just what i think .I mean if you compare Open Source with anything proprietary
it will always give Open Source a landslide victory.Be it the development phase, fixing bugs or even a small thing as installing the software.
Open source has always been ahead.
But i think everyone agrees on one thing that Open Source is the way to go.

Lets keep up the good work.
Just wanted to know if anyone here involved in any open source project.
I believe there will be some people in this forum. If so please tell what project and what level?
Would be great to have a team of IndiaBroadband Forum- OS developrs.

Problem is like automobiles most the changes are "under the hood", so it difficult to explain it to lay users easily,

apart from other reasons, thats the main reason why vista failed according to me - coz everyone tho its just a newly themed xp.

The grotesque hardware requirements was also one of inhibiting factors. But Windows 7 can comfortably run in my 786MB RDRAM PC without any hiccups

The hardware req were high, yes. But i heard the same story when XP was released. My fren assured me that 98 was here to rule. But ofcourse Xp was a long leap from 98 in terms of stability and visual aspects.

Rambus memory ? what kinda PC has that memory.

Anyways if do test it tell us about it.
