Unhappy My Windows Problem ~ automatically keeps rebooting

    Hey guys,

I'm suddenly facing this problem from last one hour..

    In XP :

My system keeps rebooting automatically as soon as windows XP loads. I've checked the starup list and there are no suspicious programs.

The only program I installed in that windows session was MPLAB (micro controller software meant for controlling external MC's), so I beleive it has nothing to do with.

also the shutdown is instanteanous and not a normal shutdown

    In Vista

I'm concurrently facing a similar problem i Vista installed in the same hardware.

When vista GUI loads it shows "Wait till updates are instlled or something similar... whereas i hadn't updated in the previous boot of vista.

then it shows "stopping services" and then "shutting down" and thats it.

But the remarkable thing is the another verison installed in the same disk is working (i'm posting from here only).

And the safe mode of the problamatic XP is also working fine.

    My config
    ---------

    Core 2 Duo 2.5 G
    HDD SATA ~ 160,500
    Intel DG35EC Mobo
    2 Gig DDR2 800

PS: My AV , Firewall and Windows are fully uptodate.

    Please help me guys :38:

i think your comp is hit with a virus , try booting in safe mode or Last known good config.

I havent tried it on Vista, but the procedure is intended for XP. Please checkout http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...tml#post108003 (Frequency of your OS installation.) for the procedure..

    Did you mean this :

Boot into the recovery console using a bootable windows xp installation cd

Enter LISTSVC in the prompt. This command is used to list all available services and drivers on the PC. Current status of each service and driver will also be displayed

Once u find the erroneous driver, note down its exact name. Then type DISABLE driver_name to disable the mentioned driver from loading while booting.
Actually my problem is different from what putchu had, but nevetheless I will try it today

BTW how do i know if a driver is erronous

    @ newprouser

I too had the same problem, the only solution is that your RAM card is not supported, so your PC/Windows keeps Re-Booting.

    Change your RAM card.

The current status of the service and the driver will be displayed. from that u can weed out the corrupt driver
