cool. Not Bad. Windows 7 requires 1 GB of RAM. But better buy a 2 GB stick. RAM are very cheap these days.

RAM is THE problem. RAMBUS RAM is not available now.

But no worries. I have had this same config for the last 7 years and it is time to upgrade anyway. I have been putting it off for some reason or another.

I was thinking of getting all the components myself and assembling the whole 9 yards. I am think of getting the major components from US the next time I visit.

System Restore Points are made ONLY if there is a change in the
    settings of the System.
It is advisable to delete ALL Old System Restore Files,
( automatically retaining the latest working settings date)
and then disable SR, to enable Windows to load faster.
    MIN requirements for Windows 7.

    For Windows 7;
there is a discount of Genuine users of Windows 98 Vista etc
Basic Home Rs 5899 less 40% is a deal !

Read fully the post. ONLY quote relevant sentence .
It was suggested to CREATE one SR point and then disable it.
If you feel ( and your friend ) think that MS has wasted their efforts to create this facility.
probably you are too sure about your perfect System which will never get a Virus/trojan/
    malware etc.
Or may be you don't connect to Internet and use the computers like game consoles.
"System Restore" application does not use system resources when disabled.

    Default Xp sp3

XP SP3 is the best product from Microsoft so far. But it looks like Windows 7 may make XP SP3 disappear in a few recent years.

I like XP, the error free XPSP3 that runs every thing smoother, faster. It runs old programs perfectly unlike vista........
