just boot from a win98 boot disk
    in dos type
    fdisk/mbr

this will clean everything from the MBR (Master Boot Record)
if there is any Virus it will be removed...!

98 Boot Disk (requires floppy drive)

Alternatively, start xp setup CD, goto to rescue mode and use format or diskpart to format/delete partitions...

Are u sure that its a boot virus ? It may be a hardware issue too (if vista boots successfully ).
Note : XP cd does not support SATA hard disks & gives an error (on most laptops ). Change the hard disk settings to "compatible" in the BIOS.
