Default Desktop short cut is not working

My operating system is Windows XP with MS office 2002. When I double click the desktop shortcut for XL file an error message crops up "Windows cannot find D:\ABC.xls". It is happening only in respect of Excel files (irrespective of directory). Kindly help me to overcome this problem.

posted in another forum. try these

    Option 1

    Open Excel
Make sure you have a document open (otherwise you wont be able to access these options)
Go to Tools>Options>General then uncheck Ignore other applications

    Option 2

    Close Excel
Click the Windows Start Button>Run and type excel /unregserver
then Click the Windows Start Button>Run and type excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's factory defaults.
