    Default Modem Problem

    Hi
I have a unique problem.. I hope to get the solution... My PC, which i upgraded to WIndows XP from Windows 98 has shwn some problems with modem...

I have aMotorols Modem, which i use for dial up connection. Its an internal modem but today it showed some Error Code 10.. saying it is not functional. I have tried uninstalling and installing it but to no avail. I have tried updating the driver as well.. However, its still coming non fnctional...

Can anyone help as to what the problem is and how it could be solved

    Thanx

Can you be more specific like the model number of the modem or anything like that..? and have you checked the slot in which it is fit, is it loose ? as it is an internal modem it has got great chances of getting loose that is partially it comes out of the PCI slot and will cause the device to fail ...

    To do

uninstall all of its drivers and delete manually (if needed) all its files and then if you know hardware part ie to remove the modem and replace it in other PCI slot (usually will be 3 or 4) and then reboot the system and should detect the modem and install the driver.... hope it works

    Update your results...

Hi,this problem was not solved by installing the modem again. When i tried to dial up ,I got this error

    Error 633

If this is a dial up connection, the COM Port that the network connection attempted to use is already in use by another active network connection or another process..For e.g. A phone line monitoring program such as fax program. Close the application that is blocking the use of COM Port.

Also, my real player is not woking and saying that it is used by another program...

In the Dialup window click the option help.
and see the error codes /trouble shooting .

It is not clear whether you are using a 56Kbps dialup
internet ( sancharnet/ Netone ) connection or broadband connection.
do you use phone Number 172222 or 173333 ?

Create a new dialup connection and try.
    Disable Windows Firewall temporarily.
Uncheck all other devices appearing in taskbar.
for instance external audio amplifier/speaker etc.

In control Panel select "Phone and Modem properties" and check properties. and query the modem .

Para two: Can you check in Device Manager, any yellow mark against this modem. ?

    Hi

I use motorola mdem 56ks. About the conection, I use MTNL dial up connection, where i dial 172231....

My main question is why the error is coming? I want to know is it due to hardware problem or software? I have instaled all drivers...

When i go to device manager, I have been shown one yellow sign, which indicated about Audio Controller not being installed. Is the problem due to that?

In control Panel select "Phone and Modem properties" and check properties. and query the modem .

com3 there should not be any IRQ conflict.

indicated about Audio Controller not being installed. Is the problem due to that?
    No.
Against the 56K modem check properties.
    Whether enabled or not.
    trouble shooting etc.

    How should i install port?
    For 56Kbps Fax/voice modem select .
usually the port is COM3. ( The conflict will be in IRQ9 ?)

Try installing your modem in safe mode (press F8 before windows starts). Hope it works.
Once i had faced a similar problem with my lan card & had also got error code 10. I had to reinstall windows to make it work.
