    Default Different RAM speed

Presently, I use a 1 GB, 400 MHz RAM. Can I add a 512 MB, 400 MHz to it. Both are different make.

    Please give your opinion.

    Present one

Would like to use, was using previously.

Buddy both are 400MHz RAM. U see the speed as 200MHz which acyually means 400MHz. Thats y its called double data rate(DDR). So, if u have memory running at 800MHz, in CPUz u will see it as 400MHz.

So yes, u can use that 512MB RAM module too.

PS: i m not too sure wat the effect of different RAM timing will have on the system. DO NOT try to change them in BIOS manually.

the only real issue would be the performance difference. to get the most speed out of your memory always install sticks of same family and architecture (what I mean is use identical ram sticks otherwise its not worth the upgrade). But there would be not issues.

As you will find from the screen shots, both are 400 MHz. But both are of different make. The previous one was an error.

Are you sure about the clock timings.

I am currently posting from a system with

Transcend 667 1GB (that i got with the system)
    +
    Kingston 800 2GB (that i later added)

    the result ?
No problemo ...... it works perfectly fine

btw both are ddr2 ... make sure u dont mix that up , stick to either all ddr or all ddr2

Was a bit confused as Rajan and npu mentioned about clock timing.

Thank you all. It is working.

If both the RAM are of Same frequency then there is no problem Both work in their natural ability.

One is 400 mHz (Standard Convention mHz not MHz/MHZ )

and the other is 233/333 mHz then the higher frequency RAM works with Lower frequency to match the other RAM

    so still now problem.

In case if you use Mercury Motherboard then but the Lower one first and higher after that
