    Default Peer Guardian

Anybody using peer guardian ? Please give some idea how it works.

I have Zone alarm Free firewall. Is it necessary to use peer guardian while downloading torrents. Can Peer guardian be used as a regular firewall.

    Thanks in advance.

Peer guardian works only with XP and not properly with vista. Peer guardian prevents RIAA and MPAA, helps block anti-p2p organizations, spyware, adware, other nasty ip addresses and other snoops from accessing your torrent client.

Peer guardian uses a file list of all these banned IPs.

You can directly ban these Ips from utorrent itself without using additional software.

    Here's how:

You could download ipfilter.dat (a banned IP list) from

Blocklist Pro Security - BISS P2P IP FiIlters

    or

    SourceForge.net: IpfilterX-u23

A tutorial on how to use the ipfilter.dat with utorrent:

    1. Download an appropriate IP blocklist. The file will be saved in .gz format, therefore you will have to unzip it. The result is a file called “ipfilter.dat”, that is the IP blocklist.

    2. Copy/paste the ipfilter.dat file into your %appdata%\utorrent folder. This folder looks like “C:\Documents and Settings\<your Windows username>\Application Data\uTorrent”.

    3. Start uTorrent, go into Options -> Preferences -> Advanced, set the ipfilter.enable option to True and hit Apply/OK.
If you have successfully executed the above steps, then on the Logger tab of uTorrent, you should see something like “Loaded ipfilter.dat (xxxx entries). If you see there “0 entries”, then something went wrong.

You can reload the list without restarting uTorrent, by simply setting the ipfilder.enable option to False/OK and then True/OK.

also peer guardian won't be able to hide your IP address(read proof)if you download anything using torrent so if you fall into trap of downloading something being monitored it won't help.as said in previous post it will help you by banning fake/malware addresses which are primarily meant to annoy/infect you.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Peer guardian is not a firewall. It does not /can not prevent mal-ware from entering your PC. It only prevents nasty IPs from connecting to your torrent client.
