@siddarth
Thanks.
As I understand , when you type an URL in the address bar,
many old entries also appear.
This has to be avoided.
The following may be useful. Please give feedback.

So, the best method would be, rather than to clear the address bar each and everytime, it’s better to config the browser to
not even store the URLs in the first place. Ok, how do we do it?
A few steps :
1. Type ‘about:config’ in the Mozilla Firefox Address bar and Hit Enter. You will be presented the below screen.
Firefox config address bar
2. Yeah, give the Promise and click the above button to be presented with the Configuration Options of your favorite browser, Firefox.
3. From the options, move down until you reach ‘browser:urlbar.maxRichResults’. The value at the end of this would be by default ‘12’ and this is the number of URLs being displayed in the address bar and which we are planning to reduce or remove permanently.
4. So, at last you can double click on it or else right-click and choose ‘Modify’ from the context menu.
5. Place 0 or else your required number based on your will and wish.
6. Restart browser.
There, we are done with it now.
Try it.
firefox address bar old urls delete.

Technology Blog: Firefox will not clear browsing historyFirefox will not clear browsing history
Bug #2 after my recent Firefox update: I noticed while I was playing around with the "clear private data" settings trying to figure out the issue from my previous blog (Firefox not remembering passwords) that Firefox was also not clearing my history when I asked it to. After doing some searching, I discovered a similar problem as the previous one: a corrupt sqlite file. The following steps solved the problem (most of this is an exact repeat from the previous blog, as the steps are very similar):
1. Backup all Firefox bookmarks. In my research, this seemed the safe thing to do, though I will say that after completing the steps below my Bookmarks were preserved, so it was just a precaution. Close all Firefox sessions. If you are reading this in a Firefox browser and want to have it handy for reference while you complete these steps, either paste the URL into another browser (like Internet Explorer) and access from within this alternate browser for the time being, or paste the text of this blog into notepad.
2. Locate on your computer Firefox's profile folder. On Vista, find it by doing the following:
Go to Start, Run, type in (or better yet, paste) %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and then hit enter or OK. Then click on the folder displayed (there may be more than one if you share this computer with someone else or have multiple usernames/profiles). You have now found the profile folder. On my Vista computer, the path was as follows:
C:\Users\Lance E Riley\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\scs nghy9.default
3. Inside this folder, locate the file places.sqlite and either rename it to something like places.tmp or simply delete it. I also placed a copy of the original file on my desktop just in case I screwed everything up and wanted to put the pieces back together, but that's just me being cautious, it's not necessary to achieve success.
Note that this file and much (or perhaps all) of the rest of the Profile folder may be hidden by default (at least on Vista), so if you decide to SEARCH for these items versus the method described in Step 2 (which is totally a viable alternative method), you will need to tweak your search settings to find non-indexed, hidden items.
4. Restart Firefox. A new places.sqlite file should be created, and with this fresh version, it is highly likely that you will have fixed the bug and will now be able to clear the history when you wish without Firefox ignoring you.
To review: If, after an update, Firefox will not keep you logged into websites, and it will also not clear History when asked, deleting two sqlite files in the Profile folder and letting them be "re-created" should solve the problem. For the logging in issue, the file is cookies.sqlite. For the History issue, the file is places.sqlite.
Of course, now that I've discovered TWO corrupt files after an update, it makes me wonder what other sqlite (or other) files are corrupt and what little bugs they are causing that I may not yet be aware of. If problems persist, the overall solution (as mentioned in my previous blog) may be to simply uninstall Firefox and start over. We'll see.
my adivce reinstall the firefox and keep updating mozilla.. then the clear data will work.. as the installation of several extensions and a old firefox acts wierd the ways u are telling..
keep firefox rocking.. its the browser..
