Thread: shut down problem

my brother's laptop is creating a problem.whenever he wants to shut down the lapi,it is taking a long time to shut down,,,,,,the "windows is shutting down"
screen is taking a long time to shut down......

the problem appear after he installed some softwares and an antivirus software...but 320gb harddisk and 3gb ram is creating such problem...why i don't know plz suggest......

i have heard abt some freeware utilities for shutdown like superfast shutdown etc....can it be used safely in my comp??can it cause any problem to my pc??

Some softwares may be taking time to close. Remove unwanted software from system start up. If you use a program to speed up the shutdown, it will simply close without giving time for normal wind up. This will result in a error in the program and damage it in future.

what is the OS?
is it vista?
try hibernation mode rather than a full shut-down

scan your system for viruses using an online scanner like kaspersky,trend micro etc.also uninstall those softwares & then reinstall them one by one to see which is causing the problem or you can see in windows even viewer which processes are taking longest time to shutdown.
