Question Need to change Icons - Help needed!

hi,

I want to change the default icon for all types of media files in windows Xp to a custom icon.

Now, want is : - to change the icon of all video type files to one particular icon directly. Same for all audio files. I know how to change the icon of a particular file type using Windows folder options. But, this wont help. As, i would have to change the icon for every media file type one by one.

I want to apply the change to all media files at a go.

Any trick or small application which can do this??

Icon packager used to be good. Its from the same people who build windows blinds.

You can try tuneup 2008/09. It also has a feature which lets you do so.

I recommend TuneUp Utilities 2009. They have icon packages that you can download. Or you use any icon of your choice. It take only a single click.

I checked with Icon Packager. It doesnt solve my problem. I need to change the icon of all media files formats at one go. i need some application which can apply a new icon to a group of file types.

Icon Packager and most probably Tune Up utilities have different icon sets. If i apply them, all windows icons will be changed. Or else, i will have to apply icon to a particular file format one by one.

You can do it using Tuneup Utilities. If you change the icon for jpeg files, it will change for the whole system. Whenever you use jpeg, this icon will be there.

If you wish to change icons all files of one type, say .mp3, to a single custom icon, you can do that via File Explorer.
  • Start File Explorer
  • Click on Tools --> Folder Options
  • Click on 'File Type' tab
  • Locate the file type, e.g., mp3
  • Click on Advanced button
  • The new window will open and show the advanced properties. Click on 'Change Icon' button.
  • Search for the .ico file of your choice.
  • Click on OK.
Let me know whether this works.

^ I know this. This is not what i want.

What i want is to change the icon for all media file types(avi,mp4,asf,divx,mpg,3gp etc etc) together without having to change the icon for every file type one by one.

then you would have to set the icons before installing any media player for these file types meaning just after installing XP.
