| thats way too long. once in a while it would do good to uninstall FF completely, remove all the files and re-install it. I telling this coz, i read somewhere, that FF creates temp files which make it slow over a period of time as an alternative, u can try portable FF from here and see if it makes a difference, before reinstalling. Rep Power: 6 | There is an application called Firefox Preloader that can start Firefox in a second. But it's a little unstable. |

| Platinum Member | Thanks friends. Will try all the options starting with re-install. @F, don't say 'repping' Sounds kinky.------------------------------ OK. Before trying out a complete reinstall, I thought I would try to disable the add-on's one by one and check. So I disabled FlashGot first. And viola! After the very first instance it worked. (I guess sometimes Murphy's laws don't hold true. Now I have completely installed FlashGot and FF loads in 5-10 seconds. It is still slower than IE but acceptable. I read at many places that FF is always a little slower to load because of the add-on's.

Rep Power: 2 | i think if you have multiple tabs saved in the last session then it might take time to load..and have you googled to speed up ff tutorial...it really worked for me and since then i always have some 10 to 12 tabs saved in every session....they load at lighting speed every time i launch ff off topic- guessing by your avatar you are either very elder saggy Pinocchio or a ugly twin brother of Cleopatra |

Rep Power: 5 | First of all they have not increased the cold start significantly but it is way better than IE8 & previous versions. As its cold start was good already major thrust was not on increasing it. What they have increased is browsing speeds , scripting speeds & added a whole plethora of features. You can see that coldstart will be increased in 3.6 hopefully. To know whether your browser is really slow than its average ,benchmark it here Peacekeeper - The Browser Benchmark from Futuremark Corporation This test will consume much CPU & memory(noy alwaysin case of memory). You are advise to close all of your windows & downloads to get accurate results. Anything around 2/3rd of average is good. They don't check cold start but you can get idea whether your browser is slow than speed which it should provide. This guy claim that his method increase the speed of ff & reduce memory consumption. But it is valid only for windows platform ( so I can't check it). http://stayupdate.com/tips-tricks/in...ge-20-tips/567 |

All I am saying is what I am observing. I am still on IE7 - so I cannot compare with IE8. I use IE7 as well as FF 3.5. | |

Rep Power: 5 | Now where have I started the wars of browser? Some people will never learn to understand the facts. No browser can claim it is fastest in all tests. What they can claim is that they are faster in certain test. I have given you link to increase the speed of your browser & benchmark it. Is it fighting war or helping others? Rep Power: 5 | I have not stated which browser is fastest in all respect. All I have done is given link to benchmark test to those who might be in need to check whether there browser is functioning as expected. And another link to solve if it not meet expectations. PS: 70% people use IE. Its very important for web developers. Even I have install IE 7 in linux ( but I am not a web developer). Last edited by Luke Skywalker; 07-17-09 at 07:34 AM. |

Rep Power: 2 | how to reload fast in FF This trick is especially helpful for those who are on a slower connection. As you know firefox has a cool feature of "recently closed tabs" and now "recently closed window" with v3.5 onwards. But a very few know that we can use it reload faster a web page if it gets stuck. What you have to do is to close the tab and press ctrl+shift+t (shortcut). This way the page does not load again what it had already loaded (not always). When you press 'reload' it reloads everything and the page might get stuck again. |
