The simplest way to do it is download and install EasyBCD (Google EasyBCD download - I am not allowed to post urls ) on your Windows 7 installation and follow these fairly simple steps...

    1. Hit the Add/Remove Entries Button
    2. Hit the Linux tab
    3. Choose Grub and your Ubuntu partition
    4. Hit Add Entry and reboot and you are done...

And yes, I have been using Windows 7 right from the beta stage and find that there aren't any really major differences between the RC (build 7100) and what is supposed to be the RTM (build 7600). I suppose they have improved stability and speed which we will probably see after long term use...

    Cheers

Excellent suggestion essbee. That's will do the trick. I used it to rename "Windows 7" boot selection to "Windows 7 Ultimate" and "Older version of "Windows" to "Windows XP Professional". Didn't know it could do this.

By making it dual boot/quad boot? etc make ur system any bit slower (if HDD space is no constrain, say 1TB)?

Nope. You are not running any of the OSs simultaneously so no problem. Speed issues would occur if you were using a virtual machine which has to share the CPU / Ram ? Resources between concurrent OSs.

    not at all.

well a selection screen is shown where you are asked to select among the OS's.

By default the latest installed OS is set as default and it waits for your choice for 30s.

This timing can (only) be reduced from Vista/7 .

the boot options in XP is ignored unless , more than one XP is installed.

Thankfully I didn't need to download/install any Drivers for my Acer Laptop seperately... Every Device was recognized and installed automatically... Windows Update did update the Driver for Display Adapter...

Probably you will be able to use that Sound Card when the Driver for Win 7 will be available from Creative. I guess not before 22nd October.

I didn't try the Automatic update. I disabled it first thing after installing Windows 7. Like I always do on Windows XP .

I always keep Automatic Updates "Notify before download"at any Windows. That way I'm able to choose which ones to ignore and which one to download...

So what exactly did they change in RTM ? Atleast XP used to show invalid driver version warning.

By default laptops hibernate when lid is closed, probable that by default 7 shuts down. do check it if interested.

I have tried Win 7 RTM (build 7100).The insatll was much easier than XP.It took only 15-20 min to install .All the drivers were installed out of the box.I was able to play divx and xvid without installing any codec.Nokia PC suit also worked fine.Recent games ran well.I was able to play "max payne 2" in compatibility mode without any prob."Max paye 1" had some minor problems may be bcause this game was made for win 98. I uninstalled it after a week bcause avira ,demon tool, and some soft. were not working. Moreover wasting 8 Gb space over an OS was too much for my 40 Gb HDD!

May be I'll try it again after after 5-6 months when the incompatibilities will be fixed by major software companies.
