Default Any tried the New Windows 7 RTM ?

Microsoft finished building the windows 7 version on 13th July and the testing process on 22nd. Finally the windows 7 build 16385 has been named as the RTM, ie final version.

Already this is being shipped to OEM dealers to be installed on PC's thought the final release to public will be only on 22nd Oct.

But as usual, the ISO of the new build has been available through certain channels for quite sometime now.

Has anyone tried it out ?

    p.s: thanks for correcting me.

I don't think upgrade will work with RTM.

well amal said we will able to upgrade it. so download the new setup and install it over the older one. Better to copy all data incase it deletes the files.

Is the new set up available on Microsoft website ?

Anybody tried XP mode. If so, please share the experience.

Get the source from wherever you like...it will be in ISO format. burn it onto a DVD and install. You can choose the upgrade option.

    yeah good advice.

Infact if you received windows7 newsletter from MS, they had given a link to a tool which can also back up your entire application data folder. Very practical IMO.

Read my first post. It will be officially released only on Oct 22, so you cannot legally get it now.

Its reported that windows 7 doesnt eat up so much RAM!! its like more than 2GB is sufficient to run the new version! hopefully, what is reported is true in the future! vista sucks big time!

Yes, 7 requires the same resources as did Vista. And it seems to be using it a little more efficiently. Will have to install the final version to see the end result. Probably by tomorrow i can post some more information.

Well I tried the RTM, infact posting from it.

I tried to Upgrade from RC v7100 to RTm v7600, but got the error that it is not supported. So i overwrote the existing RC installation.

Installation takes about 20-25 minutes. It was no smooth, no questions asked 'inbetween' the setup just like in vista.

For those who haven't used RC or later version, you will notice that the product key screen appears after the completion of installation.

p.s. It doesn't seem as fast as it was. just a hunch, lemme try it for some more time and see.

I found out how you can upgrade from RC to RTM:

    Upgrade Windows 7 7000 to Windows 7 RC 7100 | Tech Mania

Also people are saying that 384 and 385 have been compiled by the Chinese. And they may have been injected with malware.

The real RTM version will be 386. It is due out in August, I'll wait till then.

    Steps:

    * Copy the contents of the RC iso to a folder. This can be done by
mounting the ISO using Poweriso or IsoBuster. If its not a ISO then its
    much simpler.
    * Now open Source directory within Windows 7 Copied files & folder.
    * Open the file cversion.ini in Notepad.
    * Replace miniclient value from 7100 to any lower build for e.g 7100 to
7000 as shown in pic below.
    * Now Save the file cversion.ini and your done.
    * Run Setup again and upgrade.
    * Same steps hold good when upgrading from RC to RTM build which is
rumoured to be out September 09.
