well you are mistaken... the modern themes consume alot of memory (i mean, more than they are meant to), you would not notice it if you have alot of spare RAM. If you still dont want to believe us, try this in XP>
    > right click on my computer> advanced tab>
Under the Performance Fieldset> click on the settings
Now from the menu that appears select the radio button next to 'Adjust for best performance'
It will drain all the special effects.. now you will notice a boost in gaming performance & application runtime.
My Observation> Vista Tranformation Pack.. slows the damn out of the system which has 512 MB RAM, p4 2.0Ghz.

one more thing @imrock, once you start using ur system for 'miscellaneous activities' other than gaming and internet, you would stop considering the looks.

a theme doesn't according to me....in my experience there is no slowdown.

but yeah transformation packs eat the memory.
and i only surf net and game and install some softwares that i find necessary and nothing else.

I like the normal green/blue design color of Windows XP. I wish the newer versions of Windows would allow it to be used as the classic version instead of the classic being the old 95 type version but I guess it needs to be that version in order to increase system performance.
