Default Introducing Google Wave

I know you are very excited to figure out what this so called Google Wave is all about. Just read on… I liked the real concept behind Google Wave and hence will write about it. It a good product we can use no matter who is behind it. Google or Microsoft. To a user , this is all bullshit. All he wants is, things to work the way its meant to be.

How about an single environment where you can chat with friends , share photos, you tube videos, Maps etc ? Google wave is simply an online collaboration tool or a shared space where you can communicate with friends using photos , videos, text messaging and many more. Want even more ? ok. Even you can play one on one games or play a game where your friends can join you. You can even see their scores and what they are playing. You can also do voice /video chat too. And everything you do on a wave is real time.

Long back i got my Google wave invitation and today i just logged in and seen how much it has changed in meanwhile. so here is the first view of Inside Google wave.

Now, the first question you might ask is why to use this Google wave when i already use MSN,Hotmail, Gtalk. Well, here are few interesting things you can do inside a wave and be more productive and have fun too. In next few blogs, I will show how we can use those in Wave.

Also, How a wave is different from mail ? When you send a mail to 5 of your friends, each one get a copy of their own. In wave, all your friends interact with the one single copy. this is how its different and hence more productive.

Apart from below possibilities, what we can do from with-in a wave is ,

you can post/comment any twitter updates.

Imagine you have a German friend and he/she does not know English and neither you know German ,still you both need to chat. Well, Wave can help you. You just need to setup a wave where when you type anything in English, your German friend sees it in German language and that too Real Time.

Now Imagine, you have a bunch of photos in a wave. You can just embed you wave to your blog so it appears on your blog as a post. Want more ? Even if you or any of your friend comments on any of the photos, you get the alerted in real time as an when it happens. Also you can reply back to his/her comment from with-in the wave.

Imagine, You just want to ask your friends about attending a party and want to know their views. Simple, start a wave and include a yes/no gadget in it. (will see how to do this in next blog). You can even embed map to show them the exact location. And if any of your friend is online , he can even see what you are doing inside a wave. E.g.. If you are zooming in a map for a particular location, he will also see the same. Its all real time.

If you share photos in wave, your friends inside that wave can too see it the same time. If he adds his own, you too can see it instantly. Again, its real time.

Organizing events
Keep a single copy of ideas, suggested itinerary, menu and RSVPs, rather than using many different tools. Use gadgets to add weather, maps and more to the event.

Meeting notes
Prepare a meeting agenda together, share the burden of taking notes and record decisions so you all leave on the same page (we call it being on the same wave). Team members can follow the minutes in real time, or review the history using Playback. The conversation can continue in the wave long after the meeting is over

Group reports and writing projects
Collaboratively work in real time to draft content, discuss and solicit feedback all in one place rather than sending email attachments and creating multiple copies that get out of sync.

Brainstorming
Bring lots of people into a wave to brainstorm – live concurrent editing makes the quantity of ideas grow quickly! It is easy to add rich content like videos, images, URLs or even links to other waves. Discussion ensues. Etiquettes form. Then work together to distill down to the good ideas.

Photo sharing
Drag and drop photos from your desktop into a wave. Share with others. Use the slideshow viewer. Everyone on the wave can add their photos, too. It is easy to make a group photo album in Google Wave.

I'm not sure to my reaction to it. It seems just like an e-mail but with twitter, fb and etc. as said. I didn't really enjoy it that much. Can't even tell exactly what's its use.
