home premium will do ur work just fine. u will have the eye candy aero effect and it suits your usage. buying 7 ultimate would be wasteful use of money. you would only get bitlocker drive encryption which someone rarely uses. and another good feature is the xp mode. This can however be simulated in vmware player or virtual box. (free software).. go for home premium

I agree that home premium is all your really need, but if you will use XP applications often then either deal with virtual emulation, or get ultimate which is probably the best emulation. It really depends on what you want to use it for.

Since windows vista, microsoft has introduced a thing called compatibility mode. It is there in windows 7 also. The purpose is to make xp compatible programs run in later windows OS. Still there are some gliches in programs that use specified system files, For those program compatibility mode doesn't work good.
Widows XP mode is not for every other computer. It requires hardware assisted virtualization which is unavailible in many flavours of modern cpus. Apart from that, The bios should also be able to support that. Like in my case, my processor is supported but bios isn't so i had to get a third party bios to experience XP mode. It was very technical, time consuming and risky.
The easiest way to get virtualization is indeed using virtual box. u wont feel a difference. plus this feature is not worth 5000 extra bucks.

    Home Premium or Professional.

but go for professional if u can because it is better than home premium and has windows xp mode compatibility also.

windows 7 control panel is really simple and still why we want a 3rd party application to do same job ?

in fact you can switch between 2 layouts of control panel, the new one is the default and you can switch back to XP style layout of control panel too.

By the way, I do not have Windows 7!

To a novice, this program will expose him to the many Windows utilities & programs he probably never knew existed on his PC! For a geek, this program hopes to help him access all such, from a convenient single place, easily!

what i want to say is the options which shown in that utility is already clearly seen in windows 7 by default. then why do we need any such 3rd party application to do same task.

ok...just see the screen shot. it will help.

Yea, from the sounds of it Home Premium will work just fine plus it ultimately provides all the features you really need if you are just needing mostly basic features. As for using a crack version, you probably shouldn't recommend that seeing it is illegal and you def. should not try it.

    is home basic availeble????
    its not in MS store!

BTW as i said before go for Home Premium or Professional.
Professional is expensive but has a feature of Windows XP compatibility mode.but some hardwares don't support it........

Now better go for Home Premium and if u have any program incompatibility issue then reply here.

imrock, there is no such thing as home basic in Windows 7. They now just have 7 Starter and 7 Home Premium. Windows Basic was only for Vista but they now call that Starter as they place that on mostly just notebooks and they don't sell Windows Starter to the public just OEM.
