Thread: windows 32 bit or 64 bit

dear members,
please inform about pros & cons of windows 32 bit and 64 bit.

32 bit Windows requires less........it is the most common used.About 70-80% use 32 bit OS as it is convinent.it requires at least 1GB of RAM.


64 bit Windows requires more.u should have a 64 bit compatible processor and it requires more RAM.At least 4GB RAM to run smoothly.but will also give u more than 32 it windows.

No, it doesn't need more RAM. (But like you said, it runs better on more RAM!) If you use more than 4 GB RAM, you need a 64 bit OS.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit on 2GB RAM. The difference is that in 32 bit Windows, it doesn't recognise more than 4GB RAM. You can run 32 bit software in 64 bit Windows also.

No. I am using 64 bit OS with Core2Duo 2 Ghz CPU and 2 GB RAM

System runs way better than it was in 32 bit. Esp by VS 2008 and Photoshop 64 bit , SQL Server 2008 64 bit opens like notepad

I am happy with 64 bit.



Bottom Line : All Core2Duo CPU are 64 Bit capable and if you have 2 GB RAM , Just go for 64 bit Windows 7 OS

Mine is quicker with more programs in the background with 64 bit !

this is because 64 bit OS can handle ur data and RAM more efficiently than 32 bit.

but there are some programs that don't support 64 bit OS.

64-bit OS is recommended only if the system has 4GB+ RAM to make the most use of 64-bit processing.......

using core2duo and 2 GB ram with 64 bit windows 7 OS. running all developement softwares like VS 2010 , SQL server, + games and all and still no issues. 2 GB ram also works fines and my PS CS 4 64 bit opens like notepad in 64 bit OS.

cool,I think I can run 64 bit os! with 2.4 ghz core 2 duo processor,2 GB ram.now using 32 bit.
