I think Norton is best anti virus for use. It is capable of keeping your PC safe by ensuring that viruses. I am now able to get quick scans on all files downloaded from the web and receive alerts whenever it detects something suspicious.

For Windows? Another vote for Microsoft Security Essentials.

I was an AVG customer for years. I still have a paid-for 3-machine licence --- and I have thrown it out.

My machine is Ubuntu now, but wife's laptop is still XP. AVG was on that machine since always, but recent versions have just bought this old machine to its knees. There's no point in virus software that doesn't let you runa anything else! It's as bad as a virus!

    MSE: Smaller; neater; free.

And it is not often that I recommend a microsoft product!

I know friend the previous version of Norton was so heavy and bored. It eat lots of memory in your CPU. But Norton comes with the new version of antivirus Called Norton 360 it comes with amazing speed and reliability. I used this in my laptop. since last 3years no speed issue and it works like a charm for me. Avast is also good in speed but not reliable most of the virus not deduct by avast.

I don't encounter the issue at my computer.

I installed only free version of antivirus software because I have no budget for paid antivirus software. Moreover, it is only for personal use.

For free version antivirus software, sure there is short-coming, not all the virus can be detected.

Try Avast free. Lots of features like webshield, network shied etc. Also got automatic sandbox, boot time scanning, gaming mode etc. Much more than any other free antivirus will give.

I've been using Avast free version and it's been very useful and it doesn't hog too many resources! So i'm happy and secure with it installed on my system.
