Default Windows XP Mode in Windows 7

Windows XP Mode in Windows 7

Microsoft launched Windows 7 its new OS which seems to be a great success for Microsoft after the debacle from Vista, and what windows 7 has got its own problems too since its being a new OS few of the software applications wont run or are not compatible with windows 7.

To solve this issue Microsoft have introduced XP Mode in windows 7 which will run using Windows Virtual PC.

System requirement to run XP Mode in Windows 7

    1. Processors Intel VT, AMD-V or VIA VT which supports hardware virtualization.

    2. The virtualization feature should be enabled in BIOS.

XP Mode works only with these editions of Windows 7

    1. Windows 7 Professional
    2. Windows 7 Enterprise
    3. Windows 7 Professional

Now how to determine whether your system can run it or not.

First you will have to download a Hardware Assisted Virtualization(HAV) Tool which will determine whether you PC processor support HAV and it also checks whether the setting is enabled for the processor in your BIOS.

You can download the HAV detection tool from Download details: HAV Detection Tool download and save it to your machine and run. It doesn’t require installation and quickly tells you if your CPU is capable of Hardware Virtualization.

Results which will be displayed by the tool, there can be three scenario.

1). If you have a computer that does not have a HAV capable processor, the tool displays the following result:

This computer does not have hardware-assisted virtualization.

2). If you have a computer that has a HAV capable processor but if this feature (HAV setting) is not enabled
on the processor (in the BIOS), the following screen is shown:

Hardware-Assisted Virtualization is not enabled on this computer.

You would need to enable the virtualization setting in the BIOS

3). If you have a computer that has a HAV capable processor and if this feature (HAV setting) is enabled on
the processor (from the BIOS), the following screen is shown:

This computer is configured with hardware-assisted virtualization

Now you will have to download and install Windows XP Mode.

To download the files just follow this link: Download Windows XP Mode

Select your windows 7 edition and desired language, you will have to download and install both the files i.e XP Mode and Virtual PC.

First download and install Windows XP Mode and then download and install Windows Virtual PC.

After setup is complete restart your system go to the start menu and click on windows Virtual PC and setup XP Mode to use it.

XP Mode operates just like it would on a stand alone machine.

Windows Xp mode is not even better than by using XP in VM Ware (virtual pc). It doesn't support devices whch are already malfunctioned in win7 (by driver faults in win 7).

Eg: I failed to install my modem driver in win7 x64. Later i installed win xp mode. when i connecting the modem through USB, it does not even taking.
So I installed VM ware and a created an XP os. It works just like an ordinary xp computer, no matter whether the devices support in win7 64 bit or not.

By the way then I installed windows 7- 32 bit, So great that any win7 64 bit, win xp and vista.
