Memory is one of the greatest assets of any system. Let it be for a small calculator to a giant super computer. Memory is the space available to store data. It can be internal or external, Read only or Random access. Windows 7 allows you to create a virtual drive. It will work and perform like an ordinary hard disk. You can encrypt it to store important data etc. Let us take a look.
1. It will create virtual discs of size 3 MB (minimum) of the format .vhd
2. Go to desktop, right click on My computer and select “ manage “.
3. You can also begin with typing diskmgmt.msc in the start search box and hit enter.
4. Computer management will open. Now click on Disk management, select action > create VHD.
5. Choose the location, size and whether you need it to be dynamic or fixed.
6. Now you will see the virtual drive listed. It will be marked as unallocated space.
7. Right click and select “initialize disk “.
8. Select only MBR and click ok.
9. Next we need to create a volume. Right click the unallocated space and select “new simple volume “.
10. Choose the size of the virtual drive.
11. Give it a drive letter which is not in use.
12. Now format the new volume. You can select between NTFS, FAT or FAT32.
13. Click “ finish “
14. If you have enabled auto play, a pop up will come and open your virtual hard disk.
15. It will also be listed among other disks in disk management.
16. You can also see it among my computer.
