Before you begin setting up Google Public DNS on your computer, be sure to save your current DNS settings. Write them down on a piece of paper in case you decide to switch back to your original settings.
Microsoft Windows
1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Click Network and Internet->Network and Sharing Center->Manage Network Connections
3. Choose the connection you want to configure with Google Public DNS. For a wired (Ethernet) connection, right-click on that connection and choose "Properties". For wireless connections, right click "Wireless Network Connection and then click "Properties".
4. You may be prompted to enter an administrator password and/or confirmation. Do so now.
5. Choose the Networking tab. Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and then click "Properties".
6. First click "Advanced" and then choose the DNS tab. Write down any DNS server IP addresses you may see on a piece of paper. After you have written them down clear all of them from this window.
7. Click OK.
8. Choose "Use the following DNS server addresses". Write down any IP address values you see here for future reference. Replace them with Google's primary and secondary DNS server IP addresses: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, respectively.
9. Close out this control panel and restart the network connection you just configured.
10. Test your new settings by entering "http://www.google.com" into your browser. If the web page comes up correctly, bookmark it and then try to access it again using the bookmark. If these two tests work, then your configuration was successful.
