Default Windows 7 Vs windows XP

Microsoft's latest windows, Windows 7 has created quite a hype, but is it really better than the all time best windows XP??

The previous windows, Windows Vista was failure, and XP still ruled.

Currently XP is still gives better performance than windows 7 and is the best OS for people who want to run heavy programs. There are a lot of programs that don't work in Windows 7. For e.g. Wacom Intuos Graphic tablet is not supported by Windows 7. On the other hand, XP supports almost everything.

Even the 64bit OS Xp is a lot better than windows 7 64 bit, 7 64 bit does not support a wide range of programs, which are usually old.

Thats why Xp is the choice of Production Studios, as well as other companies, And is use most widely.

But, Windows 7 is still in the making, they are taking care of the bugs and other performance related stuff And it is predicted that it will put an end to XP, and will be used widely all around the globe.

Well i hope that we get a high performing OS that supports all drivers and programs efficiently and also runs 64 bit smoothly as well.

XP is no more as the new games which are releasing run in DirectX 11 but XP supports DirectX 9 c only.

Have you ever seen Windows 7 hanging atleast I have never seen.

I am using it in Laptop 4 GB DDR3 RAM with 7200 RPM HDD.

Good config. means 2+ GB RAM with 7200 RPM HDD

I am not talking about hanging over here!
Windows 7 and vista takes 10 GB standalone space for installing windows!

    2 tB CAN'T BE A LAPTOP
It's very hard to finish up 8GB ram!
It was not to be admitted!
I was talking about those who had only 320 Gb harddisk and 2gB OF RAM!

    Correct assessment vis-a-vis Windows Vista.

Windows 7 gives equivalent to better performance than XP. It loads faster, runs faster and has many other advantages over XP. And lest one forgets, XP is not being supported any more. So no security patches anymore. There are a few old programs that may not work on W7, but by installing the Win/XP backward compatibility add-on, most XP programs will work on W7.

Incorrect. I do not know the source of your statements.

As far as Microsoft is concerned, Win/XP is dead. There will always be some "teething" problems when a new OS comes to the market. I used to read similar comments when XP replaced W2000.

A lot of crap. I can tell you with my own experience. Win 7 (32 bit) will run and run etremely well with a C2D processor, 1 GB RAM and 20 GB+ HDD. 95% of the today's h/w meets this requirement.

Correct. But as I said before, Win 7 does not require bleeding edge technology. Vista was resource hungry. The faults have been corrected in W7.

My laptop runs Win 7. And very well. I observed no performance degradation from XP. See pic below:

So what if it takes 10 GB. XP used to take about 6 GB. HDD space is cheap. It is no big deal.

All new PC`s have 320 or 500 GB with Windows 7. Why do you think 10 Gb to be great size if you are getting such a good OS which beats XP in all the ways.

BTW I have 2 TB in Destop and 500 GB in Laptop.

I am too satisfied with Just4Kix, Windows 7 runs faster than XP and supports all software. I have never tried XP in my Laptop but I think it will run like a charm in my Laptop.

See my experience index, Vista does not run fast in my PC but the speed of windows 7 is great. I have tried Windows 7 SP1 which is leacked out in torrent but it is quite heavy and slower than normal version so I have restored back to normal version.

What is simple about Window XP start menu and what is complex/unlikeable about the Win 7 start menu?

It is just a matter of personal choice and maybe getting used to.

Well as told by thread starter that Even in MNC's W.Xp is preferred
So there is no point saying that it's personal Choice matter!
What simplicity and Quickness winxp can offer win 7 can never!
    This is universely applicable!

Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7
    Start-up time (in minutes:seconds) 0:49 1:07 1:03
    Shutdown time (in seconds) 17 12.5 11.5
    Picasa video Encoding (in minutes:seconds) 5:36 6:02 5:41
    Geekbench (higher is better) 1,241 1,248 1,260
SunSpider (in milliseconds, lower is better) 3,170 2,647 1,828
    PCMark05 (higher is better) 1,868 1,731 1,823
    * Green is best, red is worst.

Windows 7 evened the score when it came to shutdown, however, besting XP by an impressive 5.5 seconds, or 32 percent. As in my previous testing, Windows 7 surpasses Vista in both start-up and shutdown time. One of the major criticisms of XP performance has been the long "Windows is shutting down" time, and my testing bears this out. Even Vista shut down faster than XP did. Of course, startup speed is far more important to most users—so far, XP is in the lead.

Good config means a good pc with a decentprocessor, mobo and at least 2Gb RAM.

For laptop it is always suggested.

Windows XP is obsolete.u know i was 5 years when XP was launched(2003 i guess).now i am 12 and that means that its been much time.

And Windows 7 is more convenient.use it for at least 1-2 weeks and u will forget XP.

I work in an MNC. It is a giant software company. We are migrating to Win 7. We chose not to migrate to Vista but definitely migrating to Win 7. We never migrate to a new OS unless all our intranet applications are compliant.

I do respect your comments but they are basically flawed. Contrary to what you say, Win 7 is quite easy to adapt to, is very user friendly, brings extremely good graphics, the aero theme is fantastic, the applications run just as smoothly (if not faster), looks and feels cool. I am not known to make hasty comments but I am hard pressed to find faults with Win 7.

Windows 7 is heavy than XP but the same is not follows in performance, just compare the size:speed ratio, win7 will always win.

As I have told earlier, I am a gamer and thus requires DirectX 11 to play games that is not offered in XP.

offtopic: 3 are with win7 and only 1 with XP, come-on guys help shahid

Well just4kix Either my comments are flawed or you please them by saying that you really respect them!Don't be confused!
And as far as Your STATEMENT OF ADOPTION TO wINDOWS 7 IS NOT REALLY WANTED!
It's really self dependent and a personal choice you can't enforce anyone to adopt it!
