You can use the Homegroup feature from the control panel. Once you’ve created or connected to a homegroup, you can use the HomeGroup control panel to configure it in various ways.

After configuring the Homegroup, To share any folders via your homegroup, simply navigate to that location with Windows Explorer. Then, click the Share toolbar button and choose Share with and then either Homegroup (Read) (for read-only access) or Homegroup (Read/Write) (for full access).

I did connect from my HP laptop to my Acer laptop through LAN cable.

    what i did was..

    1. enabled folder share in the property option ( the folder which i wanted to be shared) (right click on folder/ properties/ Sharing)
2.open "My Computer" and click on the "Map Network Drive" and name the drive letter and select the enabled folder which you made for sharing.

I am assuming that both are connected via BB modem.
In this case first of all you need to create passwords in both systems, means password of the users you are logged in.
Secondly you need to give specific IPs to both the systems. And lastely go to Network and sharing center>Advanced Sharing settings and then put check mark on Trun on File and Printer Sharing.

    Try this and report back

First thing is that you have to connect the two systems via a lan cable. Then configure both the systems with IPs close to each other. For example,
if you give 192.168.1.1 as IP in one give 192.168.1.2 in the other i.e., in the TCP/IP4 settings. Then, you can just copy whatever files you want to share in the public folder or else you can also click on share with homegroup.

to transfer ur files u need a lan crossover wire... if u dont have it n have normal lan wire u can transfer files too
u have win 7 both in laptop and desktop...
1- connect ur comp through lan wire, in desktop
    2-go to start<all programs<accessories<getting started<transfer files and setting from another computer<next<a network
    u will get a key
do same procedure in ur laptop it will ask a key, enter it...
wait for 2 min u will see all ur files of ur desktop select wat ever u want n transfer.
this is done by using normal line wire

if u hav a crossover line wire
    1 connect
    2 in desktop start<control pannel<network n internet<network n sharing<adapter settings<ur lancard<right click < properties<internet protocol version 4<properties
    enter ip address 192.168.0.1
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.0.2
    rest all leave blank

do the same settings on ur laptop but enter address
    192.168.0.2
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.0.1

then go to the drive which u want to share, right click<properties<sharing<advance sharing, tick on share this folder
keep ur firewall off.. restart ur comp.. the drive will show under network
