    1. Mention your modem - model and make.

    2. Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig/all, post the screen shot.

    3. Also mention your ISP. Is it BSNL ?

Select your modem/router from link/s given in my signature link/s . ( if not seen)
    UTSTAR WA3002-G4 quick reference
    5.
Confirm with Ubuntu you got connected to Internet.
    6.
Windows 7 has facility to diagnose Internet connection.
What is the error message ?

    Exclamation

    have you tried
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

    ???

did you make any changes to the computer beforew this issue started???

step 1) is firewall / antivirus blocking ur connection??? disable it temporarily. if this works, then u should add exception to the firewall for ur browser and download client.

step 2) check if you can ping local host or 127.0.0.1

keep your modem turned on throughout the next steps
step 3) if that does not work, then go to: -
Start >> All Programs >> Accessories
right click command prompt >> run as administrator,
    in that cmd window,
type in the following 2 commands: -
    netsh int ip reset reset.txt <<hit enter>>
netsh winsock reset catalog <<hit enter>>

you will need to restart your computer after this, and then check if it works.

the following step(s) might require drivers for your Lan card.

step 3) right click on my computer >> properties >> hardware tab >> device manager >> expand network controller node >> right click on the network adapter in question >> properties >> advanced tab>> link speed (or link speed and Duplex mode)
set it to 10 Mbps Half Duplex
chk if ur connection works, if it does not, then try incrementing this setting by one step
eg: next step would be: 10 Mbps Full Duplex, and so on.

if above does not work, then
step 4) right click on my computer >> properties >> hardware tab >> device manager >> expand the network adapters node and select the network adapter in question >> right click it and then select uninstall.
don't worry, coz this will only uninstall the drivers currently in use.
YOU will need to restart your computer. after windows starts up again, the Lan card will be detected again, now see if you can connect.

    if this fails as well,
try using another card (possibly lent from a friend) or try using ur n/w card in a friend's computer.
if n/w card does not work ,get a new one, if it does work, then ur windows n/w stack may be corrupted by a virus or something.
