Default Can I send FAX from my PC?

Since I am on Broadband with BSNL phone line, D-Link modem/adsl, window 7

just wondering if I can send fax without using another modem.

    using window FAX/Scan set up
    it has two options
    1. sending via Modem
    2. by connecting to fax server

    1. it says 'no modem detected'

    2. it asking 'name and network address of the fax server'

    thanks for your help

    In this context...

modem means a fax-capable modem of the older, dial-up sort, and not an ADSL modem.

Fax server means a specific machine, either made or set up with software, to send and receive faxes for other machines on your LAN. Of course, it must have a fax modem.

Fax technology involves making a dial-up telephone connection with the destination machine. That call is chargable, just as if you were talking on the line. I don't know if there are web services you can connect to to transmit a fax? The problem would be that the ultimate "phone call" to the receiver would have to be paid for.

It might have been nice if fax capability had been included in broadband --- but it has never been an internet technology (it is much older for a start) and I don't think it is ever going to happen.

Your System. Is it a desktop or laptop ?
If either, check whether a RJ11 port is available.
This will be the old 56K fax/voice modem connection to Telephone line.
    or
Check in Device manager. for a DIalup modem as above.
    or
    confirm you have VOIP available.

    old post :
    1.
VOIP is Internet Phone service, to make/receive Telephone calls via Internet..... ( computer not needed only for testing )
    Ignore please .
    SUBJECT OUT OF THREAD.

    2.
Have all in one Scanner/copier/Print attached to PC
    Mention make/ model/number such as Brother/Canon /HP etc

    3.
Wanted to use FAX facility to send fax to Govt. dept etc which has no email facility
This Dept must also have facility to receive FAX messages !!!!? Which GOI Dept? send an email to Webmaster to include same.

4.If a one time task, try a cyber cafe.

    Para two:
    5.
In your Desktop, it is easy to install a PCI Fax/voice 56K modem,
( Card may cost about Rs 250/= if still available)

Then make a test Internet Connection with a BSNL landline phone for NETONE service. ( use for testing purposes )
    6.
    Your FAX can also work.

If the Desktop is OEM check again in the rear for a telephone PORT . ( smaller in size compared to RJ45 port)
If locally assembled , add a card.

    Old thread revived by @bidesigner

If you have a Voice/Fax modem ( PCI card ) in your desktop
possible. see picture in this thread.

The Fax is sent via telephone line and not via broadband line
( both are different in an ADSL connection )
    REF:
Set up your computer to send and receive faxes

Yes. Many older laptops also have built in Voice/Fax modem.

FAX transmission of documents needed only IF the other end does not have an Internet connection.
Scan the document, convert as pdf file and send as email attachment.
