Best place to buy or upgrade. compare editions.
If you have a student friend in U.S ( pursuing Post graduate studies ) you can get windows 7 Pro for about $40/= or so. ( I don't remember the cost )

Hey SBB,
Thanks a lot.
Here in Switzerland, Windows 7 Ultimate (32 or 64 bit) retail version costs around USD 350 and on the website you listed its USD 129!!! I am not a student nor have access to a student who can let me have the software at student rates unfortunately :-( so I have trawl the web looking for the best deal. Thought it might be cheaper in India and I can buy there when I travel next week.
Whats the catch with these guys! I don't mind downloading the software(I have a 20mbit connection), but is the key legal? have you used any software bought from them. Is the software OEM i.e it can only be installed on one machine and you can't move/transfer it to another PC(with retail one can do this). If, yes than the same can be bought here for around USD 225, its still almost half price though!!!
Please also anybody else who has bought from these guys or similar sites advice me if its safe to purchase from them.
Thanks in advance.

EDIT: read their FAQ, but still not clear on their business model. I don't mind downloading, I don't mind creating the CD/DVD from a downloaded image, I don't want paper documentation etc. What I do want is that the software is licensed and that I can receive the frequent updates(not upgrades).

You have not considered Upgrade.
If you have already any version of Windows OS vista Xp etc.
Always better to download from MS official sites.
There was an offer for 3 users Windows 7 Home for $ 149/=etc
you can download from any MS site and also get/download an ISO copy to make a cd or dvd.
I have used windows95/98/2000/xp/Windows 7 Pro all from Microsoft only.
When you buy a laptop the OS is incorportated as OEM and a crash recovery disc is given. or stored in another partition.
My experience with Windows 7 Pro for last 8 months has been very
satisfactory.
Hey SBB,
Thanks for the quick update again!
Upgrade is not really an option, I have Windows Vista, but due to my work software(old sofware with no win 7 support) being on it, I first wanted to install win7 on a separate partition(recently changed my HDD to Seagate Momentus XT, 7200rpm, 32MB, 2.5", 500GB.), reinstall all the corporate software on the new partition, make sure things work OK in the win xp mode of win 7, then maybe delete the main partition, or upgrade, or perform a clean install of win 7. Well thats the general plan.
If win 7 retail is 11,000 on microsoft website then, the OEM should be even cheaper, but can't find that on microsofts website, any idea where I can buy that in India, if its around 7/8k than that works out to same price as the website you listed and it will not be a bad, deal, with proper CD, license etc. What do you think?
Thanks for all your help so far.

@essbebe. Quick update.
I finally managed to buy the software from a seller listed on microsoft india's "dial a software" partner for INR 8900. It has just been delivered today at my home in India, will install once I am there this weekend, apparantly the key activation has to take place in India.
Thanks,
SDG
Congrats.
Activation: usually 30 days time is given from Installation date.
Online it will just take a minute.
Keeping files and folders organized can be a time consuming task especially with the increase in the amount of digital files being stored. Instead of just keeping files organized people are now faced with keeping email, photos, movies and music organized and easily accessible. The more data that a person collects, especially if over multiple computers, the harder the organizational task becomes.

Windows 7 is more than what Vista should have been, it's where Microsoft needed to go. How much damage Vista did and whether Windows 7 is abundant for humans to assuredly carelessness Windows XP are questions that cipher has the answers to appropriate now.
Automatic Updates 18 was done last night.
Using Genuine Windows 7 Professional for almost a year.
Also ONLY Antivirus application Microsoft Security Essentials.
So far working smoothly, and no "CRASH" or fomat hard disk or
OS re installation.

I have visited the website of Microsoft and also even spoke with their customer care support team.
My Question is which product of WIN 7 Ultimate I should but that is :
1) Do i go with upgrade from Home Premium to Ultimate which cost some where around 7.5k
2) Is it Good to directly purchase OEM DVD Disk or a Retail key
Advice is very much appreciated
The difference between OEM and Retail...
OEM is intended for resellers to sell with machines, although it is available to home builders too. It is licenced for use on a single specific machine, only, ever, and for ever. That's why, even when DVDs are provided with a purchased machine, the licence sticker is attached to the machine, not the software copy.
RETAIL is your to use, so long as you only install it on one machine at a time, for ever.
It depends on you: whether you think the discount on the OEM copy is worth the restrictions. I don't know how strict MS is going to be when you try registering the same key on a new machine in a couple of years time --- or if you think you'll be looking to buy Win8 by then anyway. It's a personal financial decision.
window 7 ultimate provide the best functionality all over the operating system.window 7 include the both 32 and 64 bit.it's installation is easy and it's function support all software.Data recovery and repair facilities available in window 7 ultimate.
