    Dear friends,
I have all updates of Windows XP. I was using Win 7 too, but faced too many issues of compability, so switched back to Win XP.
I have also tried other browsers, but I am most comfortable with FF, so keen to figure out the problem of stability.
I tried everything suggested in the posts above, including numerous clean installations.
Still the problem persists. FF 3.6.16 is working fine.

    @essbebe,
Nice link straight from Lion's mouth , you could locate.
glad to see, such helping hand among us.

y day i had a talk with some techie friend.
he is our member too. He felt that in case Java and other related files sought during installation of FF5.0.1 are not allowed, this situation might arise.
Also, when we un-install firefox, perhaps some info is still left in registry.
one trail can be made to cleanup the directory related info and then re-install FF again.

Let us wait for feedback from thread starter.
Key report: All perfectly normal in Firefox 5.1 "SAFE MODE"
There is another application to check whether Plug ins
    need to be updated.
Narrowed down to video drivers/hardware acceleration and or plug ins
    ( Java/Quicktime/themes etc )

    out of thread:
see Download speed with Firefox Browser 5.0.1.
    varying 50KB/sec to 63 KB/sec
    mine 512Kbps speed plan.
    wait...

Thanks alot all of you for the replies. But personally am fed up with troubleshooting this problem. I have re - installed Windows Xp SP3, and still the problem persists. In fact now FF5 doesn't even a few a minutes before crashing.

    It is sad and odd

however, you may pass on the complaint to Firefox
mean time try Chrome browser, it might well work for you

Agree with essbebe, try a different version, or say beta.

I would still suggest that the O P may list out his PC details and make a case with Mozilla (FIREFOX) people, and they would be happy to study this case.
After all I was getting forefox 5.0.1 even on a old mother board like kob mk266fdsmx with a slow processor and weak monitor driver.
