from filehippo.com download older version/s and try. one by one.
Do not install in same folder.
    say c://program files/mozilla firefox 4.0 etc
I can use either Aurora or Firefox 5.0.1

Have you selected the correct versions English British or U.S etc. wait ..........http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html

Try British version . Install in separate folder.

Uninstall the current version using Revo uninstaller. Make sure you remove all the traces before reinstalling. Don't back up any settings and try the new version without add ons. Report if you are facing the same problem.

Some add ons may cause problem. Install one by one and check if any particular add on is causing problems.

(1)CCleaner: Harddisk space ? how much retrieved?
I could delete at least 350 MB from FF 5.0./Aurora files..

    (2)Try a memory optimizer. application.
(3)Test: in SAFE mode delete all ADD ons except IETab.
open the browser FF5.0 normal mode and change over to IE mode.

    Feedback.

Now after re installation new problem has arisen. Ff starts normally and crashes. Then after starting again it freezes and task manager is needed to end the process. Then again it crashes a few times and works normally then. I have not even installed one addon.

    UPDATE CNET news:
In the world of browsers, Firefox has been sticking to its rapid release development cycle, and it's set to unleash some under-the-hood improvements that should make its fans happy. It's slated for 64-bit support, a reduction in memory usage, and an important update called Electrolysis
    For future ref: Aurora
