    Cool ReadyBoost

    What is ReadyBoost?
    What it actually does?
Does it works like RAM or not?
Is that any speed increases after using the ReadyBoost?

    What is ReadyBoost?

Ready Boost is a built in Windows 7 function which allows you to use USB drives as RAM.

    What it actually does?
Does it works like RAM or not?

Though it says RAM, what it actually does is to cache the frequently used data to USB drive and hence free up RAM for other purposes.

Is that any speed increases after using the ReadyBoost?

I did try Ready Boost last week with my 8GB Transcend USB drive whose 4GB was used as cache. But there was not much performance difference felt, so I removed it.

if you have 3gb or more ram ready boost is practically useless.

I have only 2GB RAM. There was some effect after some 3-4 hours, but not noticeable. I kept it for some 4 days and removed. Should I keep it for a long time and check ?

if you have tested it for 4 days & still didn't saw any noticeable effect then no need.

i don't think any normal system with more than 2gb ram will notice considerable performance increase using ready boost.even on a system with 2gb ram it should not be needed for normal tasks like playing audio/video,browsing,downloading etc.

oh, I mainly keep myself to browsing and seeding. But Firefox and Epic are going a bit too hard on memory. Consumes around 80 % which is giving me problems. Any way out than increasing RAM ?

each tab of chrome runs as a separate process & consume separate ram so it is not recommended to use multiple tabs with chrome on a low ram system.also your FF usage is unusually high.how many tabs were opened ,version & were you using noscript or playing lots of flash games when this pic was taken?

Downgraded to FF 5.0 from FF 7.0.1 as it was a bit too high on RAM.

I have around 40 tabs open in Firefox at the time of screen shot. I have Adblock Plus in FF no flash games and not using no script add on. Will NoScript block scripts like add rep, open pop up for image / url on forums, notification for PMs etc ?

noscript is a must addon in my opinion for security benefits.for most frequently visited sites like IBF you can add them to exception list by simply moving the mouse pointer over noscript icon.you can select e.g.allow IBF or temporarily allow IBF.just to give you an idea sites like filesonic, fileserve, megaupload etc have lots of scripts which consume RAM as well as data(like those google plus, facebook like, twitter icon etc)but you only need to add the main site as an exception.some sites may require you to add 2 or even 3 exceptions for features like popups/spoiler click etc but most sites like IBF works fine with just adding 1 exception of main site itself.you can always use trial & error method by adding one exception at a time to see how many exceptions you need for all features on a particular site.

Thanks, will try and update. I use Chrome for IBF and my regular sites. FF is for general browsing.

Though memory consumption is almost the same, No Script seems to have done magic with CPU usage which was almost 100 %. Thanks a lot
