    Cool seagate 500gb sata hdd

I have seagate 500gb sata hdd. It was 2-3 month old one. I m also having another old 160gb hard disk its working normally.

I just formated seagate 500gb using windows xp manage and i goes to sleep and next morning i wake up and see the system the formatted(not quick format) stuck at 86% and wait for more than 2 hours it just stuck and not even move to next percentage. So i formatted using quick format options it works normally and then i disk partitioning as 48gb, 146gb, 100gb, 100gb, 70gb. The first 4 drive works normally but i can't able to defragment last 70gb drive. When i tried to defragment it the system becomes stuck so that i need to reboot it. Then when i choose the windows 7 os in menu it warns me insert hard disk drive. Then i moved to BIOS and search for seagate hdd there i can't find it. I just with off the ups and turn it on after sometimes and go to BIOS setting and search for seagate i can able to find it and moved to windows 7 os and its works fine.

Then i tried to format 70gb drive using the normal format(uncheck quick format in windows 7) the operation gets failed a long time and then i use quick format to format it "it shows me format is done successfully" . I can't understand why i can't format it and defragment it. I can able to create files and folder into the drive but i can't able to format it and defragment it.Then i moved to shop for replacement they just checked it by creating some folder and files and says me its working.

The product may be having disk errors. Try the options presented at chkdsk

    | Seagate

When a drive fails SeaTools, it will issue a SeaTools Test Code which helps with a warranty return
first use windows version & if it reports everything all right then use DOS/bootable CD version.in seatools select all tests(long DST/full check i think take maximum time).if you get any error you can contact seagate to replace your drive & they won't refuse when you give the reference of seatools.

Hmm.. how about running the chkdsk utility via the recovery console? You may have to install this recovery console first and access it while booting the PC.
