    1. Avast /AVG (both have their own advantages)
    2. Spyware terminator/Ad-aware/malwarebytes free version
    3. COMODO f-wall
    4. Winpatrol free version

Apart from these tools, a good operator of the computer who has good knowledge and keep himselves uptodate like his antiware prog
    jhomes and master05 like this.

    Hi,
No amount of antivirus packages are going to help if the browsing habits are not strict. Please avoid going to dubious sites, clicking on dubious links, experimenting with all software, opening any pen drive etc., Best thing would be to install any Linux distributions on a separate partition and use it exclusively for internet etc., Use windows for games, media where linux is weak. USB pen drives can be easily opened in linux and viruses can be easily deleted and only good files can be transferred to windows partition.

I have been using Microsoft security essentials for almost a year now and I find it alright. Its free and doesn't eat up too many resources.

You can download it from : Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows
