@mickey - That will never happen because Windows is Windows and Android will never rule over on Windows...Android is just a Mobile based OS but Windows is lot more than that...

Yes. It will. In review I read they are making it more versatile as it can be used in tablet also. Microsoft Surface tab with Win 8.

Fully agree. I prefer windows 7 for my desktop computer: I don't like the new start screen.

Yes. I think that windows 8 will take over windows 7. the applications windows 8 support is simply good. you can enjoy more and access more functioning in windows 8 than windows 7.

I dont think WIn8 is suitable for non-touch monitors and most of the users have normal monitor. So Win7 will remain as it is.

There are many ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) whose software is not yet ready for Windows 8 - Oracle is one such ISV. Till such time Windows 8 adoption will be slow.

Win 8 is much more stable and fast. They describe it right as fast and 'fluid'. I used Win 7 for over 20 months and on last December I've switched to Win 8 PRO. I haven't have any software issues so far and don't know people says about which software that doesn't run on that platform except those who wish to run a 64 bit software on 32 bit system. And even if there is any compatibility issues(like i had some on Win 7), giving that application administrative privilege and "Windows xp service pack 3 compatibility" worked just fine. And Win 8 also consumes lesser RAM too. My RAM usage has been just 25-30% while in normal usage but Win 7 used to have 35+ % always. But of course Win 8 is not that user friendly and one should take time to learn all the functions properly. But once you know everything you will surely find heaven in it. And its adventurous too.. I can say I'll never think of Win 7 from my experience.

Well then I'll say you are afraid of accepting the change.. I was too like you....but then I made myself brave enough and took a chance.. And the result I've said already...
And one thing.. there are world's most brilliant engineers working at Microsoft. So they cant be that much stupid to make an OS that worth absolutely nothing like you said. Its up to that user who is just not good enough to get some juice out of it..

Windows 8 is meant for touch screens not a desktop computer with a keyboard and a mouse is what I felt. I used windows 8 for a week on a laptop and my dekstop but had to come back to windows 7. What a waste of money that was and time.

LOL you sound like a quote from an emotional scene of a worthless movie. Its just a stupid OS so I won't go as far as saying something similar to that people are not brave enough to accept a different OS but I will say that you have no idea what the developers think of the end users and for what reasons this OS is designed the way it is.

I don't think windows 8 has taken over windows 7. Only people who buy new computers or tablets and get it preloaded are using it. Rest all still prefer windows 7.

I am still using windows 7,I don't think win 8 will take on win 7,though it's my personal opinion,I really don't like the metro UI.I just can't think about windows without convectional desktop :/ .I think win 8 will be worth for tablets, touchscreen devices.Microsoft can release win 8 for tablet version, that is for touch devices with metro UI, and desktop version without metro. Then I will definitely optfor windows 8.

Is Windows 8 going to take over on Windows 7 ?

No, I don't think so. Because Windows 8 is meant for touch screen computers not for the Desktop or Laptop computers. I install Windows 8 in a computer Desktop and feel uncomfortable with it's feature. It is not meant for Desktop or Laptop Computers. Windows 8 Dose not have Start Button. Which is the great disadvantage to use this operation system to a computer which work through a Mouse and Keyboard.

I think we should leave the matter on Microsoft that for what they made Windows 8. As far as their opinions are concerned, the OS is meant for both non-touch and touch devices. It depends upon one's own preference. But if somebody master

Windows 8 in my opinion is really a tablet thing or at most a desktop with touch screen and nothing more then that. For savy users it is too restrictive. An OS should not be restrictive if what I believe. If Microsoft keeps on trying to squeez more money out of their users and keeps trying to gain more search market share by restricting users then I would for sure stop using windows after windows 7 unless they come up with a better thing that is not restrictive in nature and goes with the flow.

Hi...I am Nikhil...and that "nkthesoulshaker" is my account but i had made a new account so admin please delete that account....

The new Windows 8.1 is coming and the peoples who didn't liked the windows 8 will surely love windows 8.1 because it has Start Button(A Big Plus) and little tricks and tweaks to manage the OS to work better on Desktop and Laptops without Touch Capabilities.

    Hi,

Very interesting to read the debate about win8 over win7.MS have just buried win XP( THE MOST FLEXIBLE AND VERSATILE OS)My laptop had win XP.I got it upgraded to WIN7Ultimate.took a while to familiarise myself but now OK.May be MS will bury win7 too in about 3-4 yrs? There is no new laptop in the market with win7?All win 8 and 8.1 only!Only the so called assembled desktops still feature win7.I would like members in this forum to throw some light on this! Thanks in advance!

No doubt Windows 8 is good, but I don't think it has really taken over Windows 7. There is so much more to Windows 8 that it is not required by standard users. However for tablet users this is a bliss I think, (according to my brother).

They screwed up Windows 8, (just like they did with Windows Vista when they tried to improve Xp, so they developed Win 7) so they developed Windows 10 (the preview is free to download and install ) that has the interface from Windows 7 and 8.
It is better than Windows 8.1.
I have heard that it can be used on all devices, whether touch/desktop/laptop/Mobile.
So far it seems to be good.
    Regards,
    Shrinivas

Since Win Vista.... everything microsot delivered were crap. I was strugling to find "My Computer" in Win 8! Think of the elder generations who 'used to' use Windows XP.!
I still belive XP was the best. For the Vista series, all they did is add more graphics and confused the users. May be its time to move to ubuntu!

    Cheers!

    The endless debate!

I dont know which is the best but Vista is the worst.. Microsoft officially closed down its support for XP.. XP ruled for many years but then 7 came and now its 8 all are good..

It will take some time but Windows 8 will eventually take over Windows 7, and the reason I say this is because of the advantaged features everyone would be using in coming time. Some already use them and some will start.

    Hi,

I agree with you that Win8 requires 1gb Ram! But win7 in a slow processor like Intel atom n450 also requires a clear space of 1 gb RAM as was proved with my laptop (lenovo ideapad s10 netbook) which I got upgraded to win7 from winXP!

I recently made a purchase of windows 8. Personally, I prefer using windows 7 but upon checking with stores near me, they are already phasing out windows 7 software.

A couple of months using windows 8 got me used to the system. It's not bad at all and is quite good with customization

Thats the business tactics! One the product is phased out, the OEM does not provide any support. Even hardware is customized to suit the 'new' OS! This is the reason Linux is gaining popularity. Those who are 'fans' of Win 8 are fans of its vivid graphics and visualization, and not the real content! I still have a a Win XP desktop, works efficiently!

Back when I was purchasing windows 7 a few years back, I was aiming for windows XP. Unfortunately, the news came out that windows was dropping all support for win XP

But you are right, it is a clever business tactic and Linux is gaining popularity for it's open source software. I also noticed that Linux is being used in most schools.

Now I'm not sure what their business tactic is with windows 10 if it comes out free. Maybe they are losing to Linux

They already have lost, in-fact there was no competition from the prospect of BUSINESS. If you see, most of the handheld devices and their operating systems are based on Linux, for that matter Apple's own OS IOS is based and developed on Linux platform.

Now let's come to the business prospect. No matter which ever domain you take be that telecom, finance /banking in every industry every single server which provides support to their operations are corely based and run on Linux/Unix operating systems.

P.S. I am working as Linux/Unix Server Admin.

Come to think of it, you're right. Most of the systems used in banking and finance are open source. It's just a matter of hiring the right people to provide support in-house instead of going for proprietary software support which may cost more.
Good point Maybe that's why windows 10 is free. I just wonder how they'll profit out of it?

No, Windows 8 in my opinion is much worse than windows 7. Now with windows 10 on the market and the free download for it, I think that it would be the best OS there ever is right now. Windows 7 is pretty old right now almost a decade, but the constant updates make it better. Also windows 8.1 is pretty good, better than windows 8 but not as good as windows 7.

In my opinion it didn't took over Windows 7, I still prefer 7 in all posible ways! It's much better than Windows 8. Only Windows 10 takes over Windows 7 eheh. Microsoft has a tendency, every 2 Operating Systems they release, one is completely trash. Let's see, Win XP was really good, Vista was bad, Win 7 was really good (the perfect combination of Vista plus XP), and 8 was bad, now Windows 10 is proving to be really good! Of course that this is my personal opinion, there will be lots of people that don't agree with me but I don't care, I have my own opinion!

But I'm slowly changing to Linux, in fact currently I only use Lubuntu to do my daily stuff, I only switch to Windows when I want to play some games!

Yes, Windows 7 is one of the best OSs from Microsoft which got all the good ingredients of XP and Vista. But I think Windows 8 was designed for a touch screen environment. A regular user of Microsoft find it difficult to work with Windows 8 with its new UI.

I think Windows 7 is more comfortable for a regular user. But if you are keen to have a new user interface you can try Windows 8. But it will not run in some old CPUs. It can give a great battery life and faster boot. It's just great for a touch screen panel.

I still like Win XP for various reasons for customization. Microsoft has done lot to make Windows attractive, but in the process now its all graphics and illusion! Anyhow, in course of time the old hardware will not support new software and vice versa! So, we are left with no other options, but the latest version available in market. Linux-Ubuntu stand a chance though for tech savvy !

With the recent release of Windows10, the older versions of Windows being used will dwindle and as people upgrade, the earlier version will start to become extinct, no matter how good you think they are.

Nothing lasts forever and that's especially true in the world of technology.

Not in a million years. Nobody that uses a desktop or laptop for productivity will ever go near Windows 8. Besides, Windows 10 is now available and most Windows users will shift to that. Windows 10 is a far superior OS to 8 and 8.1 and it's only a matter of time that most Widows 8 users will upgrade. It's only the Windows 7 users who are reluctant to upgrading because they have an operating system that they are already very satisfied with.
