    Default Blue Screen Error

I am facing problem with my laptop whenever I turn on my computer just after 2 hrs it showed blue screen error and got shut down. I have replaced my Hard-drive but the problem is still there. Sometimes it works fine for 4 or 5 hrs but sometimes it got shut down in 30 minutes and so. Blue screen come up and says hardware failure. Would you please help me with that? Do I need to replace the Hard-drive or is there anything other I need to pay attention for?

It is called Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD), which is really frustrating as you already experienced. The main problem with this issue is that it never tells you what is the actual reason behind this phenomena. Sometimes, it happens when new drivers got installed or updated. It can also be the result of a change in computer setting that you have done recently. If you remember anything like that just try to restore the earlier settings.

On hardware part, any lose cables or cards can create this issue. So, it is better to get it checked by a hardware expert. Overheating of your computer can also lead to this situation. Check that aspect too.

Well, it can be anything :S Have you tried formatting your PC? It can work. Did your PC felt down to the floor from a high place? It can be some hardware piece that is broken... It can be so many things! If formatting doesn't solve your problem maybe the best thing you should do is taking it to a technician.

Search you area and on internet for the best prices and I'm pretty sure that you will find some solution to that problem! Sometimes it can be just a piece of hardware that is out it's place and they'll just adjust it! :P

The BSOD can be a nightmare to fix without professional help, as what's already been said, your working blind because it literally could be anything from a corrupt HD to something as simple as a loose connection.

A lot of repair centres now will offer a free quote and depending on the age of the laptop, once you know how much it will cost to fix, then it will be up to you to decide if it's worth it or not.

If the BSOD is due to a software fault, it can be recovered.
During a BSOD, generally a memory dump is saved which helps later in understanding the cause of the BSOD.

You can use a tool BlueScreenView by Nirsoft which can parse the dump file, and will show the error in the kernel driver which caused this fault.
If you cannot get any memory dumps, you may need to turn on that feature. Refer to the attached image.

BSOD is not ALWAYS related to software. A few years ago I was having problems with my computer because it felt to the floor from like 1 and half meters and it broke a component. After that I used to have some BSOD's if I tilted my PC, I couldn't even grabe it to change it's place. Then I sent it to warranty and all they did was changing the piece, and the BSOD problem was gone. So you can't 100% guaranty that the BSOD is due to software problems.

So in this case it can be other thing and not software problem. Of course if he formats his PC and the problem is gone it was related to software but if the problem persists I'm pretty sure that it's Hardware!

It could be due to a faulty HDD, or perhaps power supply problems. Also, it may be due to overheating, so it would be handy if you could monitor your laptops temperature before the blue screen of death appears. I've had this problem many times, on my old PC, and after replacing my Hard Drive it was fixed. Also, try launching in safe mode to see if that prevents it.

BSOD could happen if your system gets over heated over a period of time. One of my friends was experiencing this issue when he uses his laptop on his bed. What happened was the sheet on the bed blocked air vents and by the time the system started heating up. This results in a Blue Screen of Death symptom. So, it is not advisable to use a laptop on bed, it has to be kept on a hard, flat surface.

But it could be only one of the reasons of BSOD. Here the main headache is that we cannot fully understand what causes BSOD. But simple things like overheating is quite controllable I think.

It usually has to do with windows update, it is one of the major causes of BSOD, and also it could be you have worked your hardware that it is worn out, that's what happened to one of my laptops.

This is the reason why I am so sick of Windows. For some Unknown reason, Windows operated PC's eventually gets ruined by BSOD. I heard Linux doesn't have BSOD but it is hard to use. Even windows 10 have BSOD.

Well, Linux really don't have any "Blue Screens Of Death", but believe me when I tell that Linux has it's own problems, currently I'm working with Lubuntu and when a new version is realeased generally it has some bugs. I remember that the past 2 versions had a problem with the log out. If you clicked "end session" and then tried to shut down the Linux you couldn't do it no matter what. Only by forcing the PC to shut down cuting the current!

And generally when you have a BSOD eventually the problem will go away with a update. If you have a problem with Linux you will have to reinstall more likely:S

Roll back your drivers. If the cause of the problem is hardware, the first thing you should try is rolling back drivers. This process will install an older version of the driver software, potentially getting rid of the conflict. Open the Device Manager. You can access this by opening the Start Menu and right-clicking on Computer/My Computer. Select Properties, then Device Manager. In Windows 8, press Windows+X and select Device Manager from the list. Select the hardware that you want to roll back. You may have to expand categories to find it. Right-click on the icon and select Properties. Click the Driver tab. Select Roll Back Driver and confirm that you want to roll it back.
Continue using your computer as normal. Once your driver has been rolled back, continue to use your computer to verify that the error does not occur again. Do 'not' update the driver again until a newer version is released.

Using Xubuntu persistent mode on pendrive for last 4-5 months on multiple systems. So far has been a very stable experience.

Yes, Xubuntu Operating System is one of the best to have installed on a pendrive/external disk and connect to any computer and use it has your operating system everywhere. All you need is just a 16GB or 32GB Pen and you are good to go, everywhere you will have all your files, programs and documents and a really fast and stable operating system!

It's really good! I might start using it again!
