Thumbs down Windows xp service pack 3 issues

Hey is any one using windows XP sp3?

I had this sp3 on my system for a few weeks now and find it unstable
I have upgraded the sp3 to the latest build from windows but still does not work that well

I play game and the system keeps blue screening (BSOD) all the time, may be every one hour

Even if i leave the comp ON for few hours and leave the internet to download torrents , it would blue screen

Not sure that it is the sp3 as i did not have this issue with sp2

    please post your experience

No problems with sp3 whatsoever... i rarely switch off my comp and its working fine.
I also slipstreamed my xp pro setup disc with it and installed without a hitch.

    Default No problem

There is no problem with SP3. Happily using it, occasionally though.

As far as I know, most of the problems with Windows (whether XP sp2/3), are due to viruses (and pirated copies). I've never faced a problem in my genuine Windows XP. At home/office, I use Ubuntu, though, for other reasons like productivity. I feel like an old man when I use Windows XP. Yet to try genuine Vista.

Mine is an old laptop (VIA processor, 256MB RAM). It actually increased the speed to a little extend.

    Thumbs down

Of course, XP3 is not a cracked one and microsoft provides it for all XP2 user. However, I still prefer XP2 and XP3. I do not see much change and it slow down my computer too.

Downloaded and installed SP3 from Microsoft and its definitely more stable. I'd recommend you to format your windows drive and install a fresh genuine copy of windows.

I've been using Windows XP service pack 3. Its working fine. Its highly recommended that all XP users upgrade to SP3. It solves lots of security issues and other stuff.

As such SP3 does not bring in any new functionality or patches. Its merely a collection of all the patches made till date. So if u r having problems, it may just been waiting to happen or jus a coincidence.

I think thats a problem with your graphics drivers.. It may be conflicting after you installed SP3.. I had the same issue after I installed SP3, after that I came back to SP2.

    dear friend,
hope your system has been identified by microsoft as pirated version, so some of the features will be deactivited because of that , first make your sp3 original.
    2. if you made your sp3 version orginal , still if you are getting the problems , try to reinstall video drivers and update the same immediately,

i have been using SP3 for sometime now .. no prob at all .. Only prob i had was that MS did not provide the HDaudio drivers and i wasnt getting HD Audio Hardware Support for Ati IC .. After d/l a patch from MS that was fixed..
Also since sp3 my system is more stable and runs 0.8% faster in overall performance

yes I used a few bechmarking software and others for network and internet and gaming.. i took the values in a excel sheet before sp3 installation and then 1 day after. and just calculated the average .. plz dont go into it that deep .. its just an experiment. But as far as stabality goes sp3 is quite stable

    @itsmemad
i cant say that its 100% accurate just the avg increase as to my fiddling around. i actually did that to c if MS claims were real or not..

we all know that whatever MS claims abt its softwares (good things), we users need to check ourselves...

SiSoft Sandra is a good one. It has a complete range of diagnostic benchmarks from CPU arithmetic, to DDR bandwidth tests. They also include charts to compare your setup to other similar rigs, or totally different setups like comparing yours to a Phenom 9600 with 2gigs of DDR2 for example. The newer Everest Ultimates have benchmarking tools as well. SuperPi is an easy one to get results from also. Then there is PCMark which runs a bunch of tests on your PC to test capability.
