    Exclamation Slow Booting

I have a 1GB ram with a dual core processor.Even then my computer is taking about 7-8 minutes to boot completely. It was working fine a week back. Then i installed oracle 11g on my comp..the boot time increased from 30 seconds to 2 mins. When i installed kaspersky the boot time did not change much. But after i installed ZONE ALARM this is happening. I had chosen ZONE ALARM not to start at boot up.But if had switched on my modem at boot up,after coming to the desktop the system would restart and then i would switch off my modem. Then after restarting it would say "your system has just recovered from a fatal error".Its after this that it is taking me 7-8mins

Can anyone explain this and please help

Do you mean to say that you are running Kaspersky and ZoneAlarm both the same time?
ZoneAlarm has a tendency to suppress any other firewall/antivirus in its way.
Hence just keep one of the both if you have both running simultaneously.

And regarding slow start up ..... though you must have disabled start at bootup for zonealarm ...you will have to disable (or set it to manual) the processes/services of zonealarm.
This can be done by using the services.msc configuration tool.
You can find it in the Administrative Tools in Control Panel.
Search the services and then change their status to manual ...and then stop them and then restart .
So the next time the machine boots up ....everything will be to manual .
So when you will require Zone Alarm then you will have to manually switch it ON.
Also the services of Oracle will also be needed to be set to manual.
So when you want oracle just start those services.
By default all these get started at startup.Hence the machine goes slow.

"""But if had switched on my modem at boot up,after coming to the desktop the system would restart and then i would switch off my modem. Then after restarting it would say "your system has just recovered from a fatal error".It is after this that it is taking 7-8mins"""""

Well i didnt get what you meant by these lines. Can you elaborate what exactly the problem is?

What i meant to say was,
I had disabled the startup of ZA at the boot time,i had switched on my modem at the same time as my computer power button, then it would take 7-8 mins for booting then after about 2 mins later it would restart without any notice.then i feared that someone on net might be doing this and switched off
my modem. next time time it took some less time to boot and the computer said me that "The system has just recovered from a fatal error and the anti virus or the firewall restarted the system to stop any potential data loss".

you lan driver is corrupted . re install it
and you dont need to start your modem at the same time do it after booting
and disabling ZA does not do all the disables ok, its still on(services)

There can be one more reason for the explanation that you gave.
In the Bios setup have you enabled Boot from LAN option or i guess they call it Network Boot.
If this is enabled then probably your operating system keeps searching for available networks and as you have switched on the modem at the same time the modem takes time to configure ..and this time gets added to the search for network utility of the OS.
Hence if thats the case then try disabling the Network Boot Option.

I would suggest keep the system so restricted that any change in behavior can be detected easily.Shut down all that you dont require.
As i told, from the Services control switch most of the services to manual.
You will get good response times.

If still the problem persists then De fragment your system.

you can go for msconfig and then disable all the unwanted progs to load at boot and apart from that you can try to reduce size of you page file and skip the auto boot check feature from BIOS.

in msconfig you can put a tick on option which says hide all microsoft services and then go for disable all, it really helps

    He's right.
I am studying LINUX and ORACLE, when i installed both(LINUX and ORACLE) then my PC became very very slow while booting and also while responding, it took around 60 to 120 seconds to perform on the system.

I think this will also help.
