    Question Windows xp management

    Hi,

    I would like some clear guidance on a few issues ..... I have lost one of my .dll system file ... now some of my programs like MS Access dont seem to open all though its free equivalent Open office dbase functions without a prob .....

    Pls answer the following questions

    --> Does anybody know how i can restore the .dll files (it has been relocated and not deleted ) ... ?

    --> If i do a xp repair installation ,will my c drive be formatted ?

    -->Is a reinstallation better than a repair installation ?

    I use Service pack 2 .....

    -->If i install SP3 would the problem of missing .dll file be resolved ?

    you should repair office not xp

    if u inatall xp freshly in c drive it will be formated, but u will be asked
    if u are repairing it , then it will not get formated
    repairing is a same as coping to the same folder in a drive , it will over write the existing files thats all, but u will loose registry data

    If you know their names I think you can download missing .dll for free from websites.

    you can run office setup once again and can go for repair option, otherwise you can look forward for complete install that will install all features again and will not disturb your previous installation, its as good as auto repair function

    Thank you all for ur feedback !

    @sb21 vish and jee vibes

    1. The missing dll file was relocated ... i had previously downloaded that file but when i tried installing it it said that the file was already present ...
    Reinstallation of dll file did not work

    2. MS access is not the problem .... It also prohibits some specific applications from installing .. for ex: Windows Defender and Google Earth

    3.Jee ... i ll try out ur first link and update this space with the updates info

    "The system DLL user32 was relocated in memory .The application will not run properly.The relocation occured because the DLL c:\windows\system32\SHELL32.dll occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs.The Vendor Supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL."

    The theme pack ur using if its Bricopack then ..when it installs it renames a lot of DLL files and created new registry keys ..

    And about the error are you still getting the SHELL.32 error ?
