You need to be logged in as an administrator or a user who is part of the "Administrators" group.

Default Perform uninstallation in safe mode(For Win XP)

    Please note DO NOT USE
the previous AVGFree Installation that you had this must be a new Installation file

    (For Win XP only)

    1. Click the link to Download the Latest Version of AVGFREE - English version & save to a folder on your C: drive

..............Dont forget where you put it...............

Now restart by pressing F8 repeatedly during boot-time to choose the option of Safe Mode

Follow these instructions to uninstall AVG...

2.Navigate to where you saved the AVG Installation file that you just downloaded.

    3. Click on the AVG Installation file
...........At the welcome dialog box Click Next
    ...........Click to Accept the Licence
...........on the Acceptance notice, Click Accept
on the next dialog box AVG will Check the system status
Next you will see a dialog box with 3 options
...........Select Uninstall product and Click Next
...........When prompted, Select Remove user settings
...........Select Include objects in Virus Vault
    ...........Click Yes
    ...........Click Ok
    ...........Restart computer

    4. ...Please Check to see if these exist,
    A. ... Navigate to C:\Program Files\and highlight the folder named Grisoft and hit the delete key.

    B. ...Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data and highlight the folder's named Grisoft, and AVG and hit the delete key... You may find that there is only one folder and not two.

    5. Reboot your computer.into Normal Mode. this is to update the registry in the computer

U must b now ready to install Kaspersky again... But again, install the Kaspersky in safe mode...
Advice- Don't select the anti-hacker(firewall) option while doing custom installation... if u want to use firewall, use any other.. like windows firewall or zonealarm or comodo...

For complete security install an Antivirus, a Firewall and a spyware/adware/malware cleaner. You shouldn't install 2 Antivirus software in the same system.

I would advise never to go for pirated software (esp anti virus)....
Always use a genuine Anti Virus....
Kaspersky, u will get 1 year license for around Rs 400~500...

You must always only have 1 virus, spyware or fire wall running at any given time. With 2 running it can cause major problems.

Yes you must not have more than one AV running on the system ,it corrupts the Definition files and causes conflict,in layman terms they start fighting with each other, best is remove both the AV ... And Install Avast Anti virus ,that should take care of your system ,as you mentioned that your a home user ,Avast shud work OK.... HEres the link
