You are getting the right speed for the plan - perhaps it could improve a little bit up to 60 kB/s.

512 kbps is kilo bits per second. The computer always shows speed in kilo bytes per second (kB/s). 8 kbps = 1 kB/s.

Note that ultimately your speed will depend upon the line quality, user contention ratio, distance from exchange, etc.

What I meant was that torrent download speeds can be optimized by some tips and techniques and some experimentation.

    a) Download a torrent with a lot of seeds
    b) Keep download to upload ratio of about 4:1. Experiment a bit
    c) Increase max half open connections
    d) Use TCP/IP optimizer

But ultimately, if your ISP is unable to give more speed, there is nothing that you can do.

Dude, the speed you are getting is 50KB/S=400kbps
So all the isp's clearly mention that they provide the speed Upto!
    Not it's always 64KB/S

And ya do check your speed by downloading a file from microsoft
